Hello there! I am Linford, an educator and mentor passionate about empowering students to meet and exceed their learning goals. Originally from the rolling hills and small market towns of central Pennsylvania, my education journey has taken me from studying at Millersville University (BA History and German) to Northwestern University (MA History) and finally Yale University (MDiv Religion).
Since then I’ve tutored and advised dozens of students from middle school, high school, college, and beyond, with over 2,000 contact hours with students. I find joy in seeing students transition from self-doubt to the confidence that comes with comprehension
My academic specialties are History, Social Studies, English Language Arts, Writing, Religion, and German.
I also specialize in the SSAT, dSAT, ACT, and College Essay/Application.
Whether sitting in a session on American History or discussing Latin roots for the SSAT, I want my students to see the potential threads connecting one academic subject to another. My methods aim to bridge disciplines and curate curiosity in disparate areas of expertise. While the pursuit of learning should be the highest aim of a student, I bring personal attention and care to the whole life of my tutees by offering a safe space to be themselves. My hope is that we learn to ask the “why” questions not only of our studies but of our own contexts. Finally, students look to me for coaching beyond their academic studies for help with questions ranging from how to write a winning college application to the best breakfast for fueling the brain.
In short, I love to see students connect deeply with their studies and themselves while having fun in the process.
