Bio

I received my Bachelor's degree in art history, graduating with a 3.93 GPA. I love academia and research so I continued in the same field, earning a Master's degree (3.90 GPA). As a graduate student, I had the opportunity to teach undergrads, and found the experience very rewarding. I received my Bachelor's degree in art history, graduating with a 3.93 GPA. I love academia and research so I continued in the same field, earning a Master's degree (3.90 GPA). As a graduate student, I had the opportunity to teach undergrads, and found the experience very rewarding. I loved helping students hone their critical thinking skills so that they could go on to apply those skills in other academic disciplines as well as their everyday lives. As a museum professional, my field requires me to remain active in the art and art historical worlds, so my knowledge of history and art history is not based off half-remembered classes taken ten years ago.

Loosely, art history is the study of the visual culture created by a people of a particular time and place. Appropriately, knowledge of history is fundamental to the study of art history. For my Master's thesis, I dealt primarily with 16th to early 19th century North American and European history, but also have a strong academic background in European history from the 6th to 15th centuries.

Previously, my background was in chemistry, a field which I studied and then worked in for many years before deciding to change career paths. As a result, I especially love working with students who plan on or are currently majoring in a STEM field. I know firsthand how difficult and at times frustrating it can be to relate the seemingly incompatible worlds of humanities and sciences, so one of the things I love most about tutoring is helping STEM students bridge that gap.

Everyone has something weird they feel strongly about. For me, it's formatting and citations for research papers. I can help with research strategies for a paper and then how to format and cite sources for that paper. Need help properly citing translated works from a published compilation of conference proceedings? I got you. I can also help develop paper topics, evaluate sources, and transcribe recorded class lectures for any subject.

Art History

I have an MA in art history, specializing in the art of Indigenous and colonial North America. Outside of my area of focus, I have taken graduate level courses in early Medieval art, Baroque art, contemporary art and theory, Renaissance art, archival studies and paleography. As a graduate student I was a TA for undergraduate courses, and since then have tutored students in a wide variety of art history topics.

My area of focus as a graduate student was early American visual cultures, so I am very knowledgeable about American history in general with additional expertise in colonial history and subaltern populations in North America.
