I can explain complicated science concepts very clearly and really enjoy helping students be their best self!

I have a Ph.D. in Immunology, over 30 years of laboratory research experience (beginning as an undergraduate student) and a high level of expertise in biology, immunology, genetics, microbiology, and molecular mechanisms of disease. Throughout my research career, I have performed various roles as an educator. These roles include mentoring students (high school, undergraduate, medical), mentoring early-career visiting research scholars, presenting seminars to students as well as to scientific colleagues, teaching immunology to Rheumatology residents at Oregon Health & Science University, and developing curricula for the Partnership for Scientific Inquiry program (a semester-long high school outreach program to teach students scientific critical thinking). Outside of my faculty position at Oregon Health & Science University, I teach as an Adjunct Instructor at Portland State University (300-level Cell Biology and 400+ level Immunology), and I have several years of experience as a private tutor at both the high school and undergraduate level in biology, microbiology, and chemistry.

Interestingly, it is my experience tutoring students that has revealed to me common issues that pose a barrier to classroom learning. A recurring theme is that students have difficulty following a lecture, either because the material is not well organized, paced too quickly, or that the visuals are not helpful. I will deliver high quality tutoring resources based on your specific needs. I am passionate about education and do all that I can to ensure that every student I work with is heard and supported.
