I have 8 years’ experience tutoring prealgebra to calculus 1. No matter your age or skill level, I will patiently and clearly explain math concepts to you. I use the Socratic Method to get students to think and work independently.

I also provide expert test prep. I reduce students’ test anxiety and offer strategies to enable them to answer math problems without solving them. I have helped over 200 students pass the Accuplacer, AFOQT, ALEKS, ASVAB, CLEP, HESI, OAR, PERT, Regents, TEAS, and...

I also provide expert test prep. I reduce students’ test anxiety and offer strategies to enable them to answer math problems without solving them. I have helped over 200 students pass the Accuplacer, AFOQT, ALEKS, ASVAB, CLEP, HESI, OAR, PERT, Regents, TEAS, and TSI.

Besides math, I also specialize in improving students’ English grammar and language usage skills. I provide strategies to assist them with answering vocabulary and verbal analogy questions when they don’t know the meanings of the words.

I help students to avoid taking remedial math and to test into advanced math like calculus. Most of them have needed fewer than 6 lessons. In June and August, two of my TSI students raised their scores from 930 to 976 and 941 to 965, respectively, after only 2 lessons each. In April, one of my students earned a 74 on the ALEKS after receiving only 1 hour of tutoring. Previously, I helped an Accuplacer student earn 285 and a PERT student earn 130.
AFOQT

AFOQT

I have helped over 120 AFOQT students meet or exceed the minimum Quantitative and Verbal scores. I use AFOQT-specific practice tests and problems so that you don't waste time reviewing items that won't be tested. You will learn how to minimize the time spent on each section and how to maximize your test scores. This month, my most recent student increased his prior Quantitative score from 5 to 55 after just 5 lessons. In August, one raised his by 41 points after 4 lessons. In March, one raised his from 1 to 78 after only 2 lessons. In May, one improved her Verbal score by 25 points after 6 lessons. I also tutor OAR math, and my most recent student improved his score from 45 to 51 after 5 lessons.
Algebra 1

I am patient and able to explain concepts in easily understandable terms. I increase students' confidence and improve their grades and test scores. One went from making F’s in algebra to a 92 in three weeks. Another went from a 40 to a 71 on his next algebra test, and one went from a 22 to an 80 in his algebra class. I also have experience helping college algebra students navigate ALEKS.

I help algebra II students fill learning gaps caused by the pandemic, ineffective classroom instruction, or extended time away from school. I also assist students with sharpening their problem-solving skills on placement exams such as the Accuplacer and CLEP. I have also worked as a college algebra instructor assisting students with navigating ALEKS.
ASVAB

ASVAB

I have provided over 1,000 hours of 1:1 tutoring for the ASVAB math and verbal sections. I do not follow a cookie-cutter approach for all students. We will go over what you want to review and address your specific weaknesses to ensure you maximize your test scores. Most of my students need fewer than 6 lessons. This month, my most recent student raised his prior score from 22 to 77 after just 5 lessons. Last month, another improved by 16 points after only 2 lessons. In June, one scored 64 after only 1 lesson. In March, one earned a 78, and in July one went from 34 to 60, each after only 4 lessons.

I am fully invested in my students' success and committed to helping them understand the "whys" behind each answer. I work together with students to explain the nuances of calculus concepts and show them how to approach problems from various angles. I have been tutoring calculus ever since I was an undergraduate at CNU.

My 25 years' combined experience in healthcare and academia has familiarized me with the math and medical terminology covered on the HESI A2. Nearly 20 of my students have passed the HESI A2. I tutor the SSAT math and verbal sections. Every day, I provide test prep strategies to help students improve their quantitative, vocabulary, and verbal analogies skills. The time-saving strategies I teach to students have helped them to double and triple their prior scores.

I have over seven years of tutoring and test prep experience on Wyzant. I have successfully worked with many students to increase their confidence and test scores on the STAAR and similar exams. I use previous years' STAAR exams during sessions to familiarize students with the curriculum, and I can provide practice problems between sessions to reinforce concepts.
TEAS

I focus exclusively on the TEAS math and English sections, as these subjects are likely not covered in your prerequisite courses. I use only the top study guides, and I have helped over two dozen students pass the TEAS. Recently, two of them earned perfect 100% math scores, and one earned an 89% English score.

I had a fantastic first experience with Michael as my tutor, and I can't recommend him enough. I was quite embarrassed to admit that I had forgotten a lot of math skills and had to relearn a significant portion of the material. However, Michael immediately reassured me that it's completely normal when you haven't used a skill in a while, which helped me stay focused. In just one session, I learned so much and regained confidence in the math skills covered in the first session. Thank you so much for this favorable review! I often tell students that math skills are like anything else. Use it or lose it. It's often not the case that students do not know how to perform math and arithmetic operations. It's usually a matter of them not using them in a while, so they have forgotten and need to refresh their skills. It's also true that not everyone learns the same way, and that is why I try to demonstrate multiple approaches to solving a math problem.

Great help with AFOQT prep

Michael was awesome. I am studying for the AFOQT and my weakness is in the Math areas. Michael sent me some practice questions and we worked through some of the problems I struggled with. He helped me with tips and refreshing my skill set. He also explained everything that made everything easier to understand and less intimidating. I highly recommend him. Michael has a way with teaching! He explains it in a way that really makes you understand what you're learning.
