Hi I'm Maddie! I'm a recent graduate of Denison University where I received a B.S. in biochemistry (graduated Summa Cum Laude). During my educational experience, I gained a great amount of teaching experience. Mostly in one-on-one settings with other undergraduate students, I was a peer tutor for introductory biology and chemistry courses at Denison for three years. I have also served as a teaching assistant for physical chemistry and a drop-in tutor for the chemistry department where I helped students with topics from general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry courses. Furthermore, I have experience teaching metacognitive strategies to underclassmen students at Denison. This means I could provide strategies to help students improve their study or note taking habits, often leading to an improvement in their performance within STEM courses.
My educational and teaching experiences have made me very passionate about the fields of chemistry, biology, and math as well as helping students better understand the content associated with these subjects. Overtime, I have gained a lot of strategies to explain complex topics from these subjects in a manner that is catered to the learning style of each individual student. I am driven to help each student I work with feel more confident as a scientific thinker and as a test taker.
In August, I will begin a biochemistry PhD program at Ohio State University. This program will provide me with hands-on biochemistry experience within the laboratory and more teaching experience as I will have the opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant.
