I am a patient tutor who enjoys breaking down business calculus concepts, solving business calculus problems, and helping students build confidence and enthusiasm for business calculus and mathematics in general. I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring different flavors of calculus. This includes calculus for business students (also known as business calculus), regular calculus (also known as engineering calculus), and calculus for biology/pre-medical students (also known as calculus for the life sciences). I have experience tutoring students taking applied calculus or survey of calculus. I have a proven track record of helping students improve course grades and understand difficult calculus concepts, including calculating derivatives (using the power rule, the product rule, the quotient rule, the chain rule, logarithmic differentiation, and implicit differentiation), solving optimization problems (i.e. problems dealing with finding minimums and maximums such as maximum profit, maximum revenue, and minimum cost), solving related rates problems, solving problems involving calculating areas bounded by two curves/functions, and calculating and interpreting marginal change (i.e., marginal cost, marginal revenue, and marginal profit). Furthermore, I have a PhD in the teaching and learning of mathematics at the undergraduate level with a focus on the teaching and learning of calculus.

I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring students taking Finite Math. Specifically, I have experience working with matrices, forming and solving systems of equations and inequalities (i.e. linear programming), set theory, and statistics. In addition, I have taught and tutored may students on other topics that are sometimes covered in a finite math course, including linear, exponential, and logarithmic functions, respectively. I am a mathematics professor and certified tutor.

Statistics

I have over eleven years of teaching and tutoring statistics. Specifically, I have taught and tutored students taking introductory statistics. Topics I have taught and tutored include descriptive statistics, sampling techniques (e.g. systemic sampling, random sampling, simple random sampling, stratified sampling, and cluster sampling), probability, the normal distribution, and the binomial distribution. I have also taught and tutored hypothesis testing, including confidence intervals, one sample t tests, two sample t tests, regression analysis, the chi squared test, and one-way ANOVA (analysis of variance). I am proficient in using StatCrunch and the TI 83/84 graphing calculator. I have a proven track record of helping students understand difficult statistical concepts, in addition to helping them improve their course grades.

Very knowledgeable and patient tutor.

I tried working with a number of tutors on the wyzant platform in search of a business calculus tutor. While it was easy to find calculus tutors, it was almost impossible to find someone who had the knowledge of the business application side of calculus. I feel like I totally lucked out by finding Sydney who happens to have a PHD in math education and who's research focuses on the teaching of calculus. As someone with ADHD, I found it very helpful that Sydney wrote everything on the his white boards versus other tutors who prefer typing which makes it impossible to follow along. I spent 2 weeks intensely prepping for my final and received an A in the class.
