Hi there! My name is Steven, I'm from Cleveland, OH and recently graduated with my MS in Applied Anatomy and am finishing up my last year in medical school at Case Western Reserve University. I have five years of hands-on anatomy education at middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. While my expertise lies in anatomy, I am also confident in tutoring neurosciences, neuroanatomy, physiology, academic writing/proofreading, research, test-taking strategies, and American History.

My teaching philosophy is centered around "starting with why." I believe that for students to best understand, retain, and exhibit mastery of a subject, they first need to recognize "why" that content is important through it's practical applications. I really enjoy seeing the moment where ideas "click" for students, and I hope my passion for science and teaching can help facilitate those moments. I am excited to meet students where they're at, devise achievable goals as a team, and have fun learning together.

Anatomy

Anatomy

I am deeply interested and passionate about the study of anatomy and it's practical applications. Anatomy can be a very daunting subject for many students - almost like learning a new language - but I believe that there is an elegance to the body that makes learning about it wildly fascinating. I have worked with students across all backgrounds and professions (middle school, high school, undergraduate, MD, PA, nursing, dental, PhD, engineering) in both classroom and lab settings, and I want to meet students where they're at to help them achieve their personal goals.
Biochemistry

Biochemistry

Just like the body breaks down glucose, we can break this subject down too! I majored in biochemistry at Case Western Reserve University where I graduated summa cum laude and further received Departmental Honors in Biochemistry as well as the Merton F. Utter Prize in Biochemistry. Biochemistry can be an intimidating and overwhelming subject, but one that is fundamental to anyone looking to enter healthcare or life sciences.

Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have personally written numerous essays and academic articles through my college and medical school education. I have a number of essays published in academic medical journals with more currently under review for publication. I feel confident in helping students communicate their unique voice through thoughtful, clear, and concise language.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I have successfully balanced two graduate level degrees (MD/MS) simultaneously and have been proficient at each. This required advanced planning, prioritization, work-life balance, and perseverance. I want to use what I learned about this process and what I would have done differently to help others achieve academic, personal, and professional success in whatever way that best serves them.
Interview Prep

Interview Prep

I have interviewed and received acceptances for MS, MD, and PhD programs and have served as an admissions interviewer for undergraduate, MS, and MD. My experience relates primarily to science and healthcare programs, and I am familiar with both the common and uncommon types of questions that students can be asked. I believe a successful interviewer is someone who can communicate "why" their personal values align with those of the program to which they are applying. I want to work with students to better develop and articulate their personal "why" so they can achieve success in whatever field they're seeking to enter.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I studied neurology, neuroscience, and neuroanatomy at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine at the graduate (MS in Applied Anatomy) and doctorate (MD) level. I have TA'd the graduate level Neurological Anatomy course and have completed numerous cadaveric dissections of the human central and peripheral nervous systems. Additionally, I have thoroughly conducted research on the human carotid sinus nerve and worked with biomedical engineers to assess its viability as a therapeutic electrostimulation target for refractory hypertension. In this capacity, I have presented my research as posters and oral presentations at multiple conferences and symposiums, including at the national and international level.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I have personally written numerous personal statements for MS, MD, and PhD programs that have all advanced me to further levels of program admittance. I have also assisted high school students in personal statement writing workshops for college essays, as well as mentoring undergraduate students on personal statement writing for medical schools, academic awards, and other competitive positions. My job is to help you to hear your personal voice and mission come through your essay ensure anyone who reads it can hear the same.
Pharmacology

Pharmacology

I have experience studying theoretical pharmacology as well as it's practical applications in the clinical setting as well as handling it on USMLE. Pharmacology is akin to learning another language where a big part of the vocab is math. It's often intimidating, but I believe a strong understanding of the basics can set you up for success!
Physiology

Physiology

MD / MS in Applied Anatomy - Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine >5 years teaching experience for medical students, nursing students, and undergrads
Proofreading

Proofreading

I've authored multiple academic and medical papers throughout MD/MS in Applied Anatomy program education. I'm very passionate about ensuring that your personal voice comes through whatever essay you're working on!
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Public speaking is a core part of my profession. I have multiple years of public speaking experience both in and out of the classroom environment, including lecturing at national and international research conferences. Public speaking is about confidence, projection, comfort - those all mean something different to each of us. My job is to help you explore what that means for you in your own unique voice and so you can hear yourself too as an effective communicator.
United States History

United States History

I am deeply interested by American History, constitutional law, and the intricacies and nuances of my nation's founding and conflicts. I have taken AP history and government courses in high school that sparked in me a lifelong passion for history, and one that I nourish regularly by reading and learning new details about historical figures, the problems they faced, and the conflicts they navigated.
USMLE

USMLE

I have taken USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 and feel confident sharing my journey preparing both academically and personally to sit for these important exams. I want to use my experience and lessons learned to provide guidance and support to other students struggling, and I intend to share what I believe are the high-yield concepts and great test-taking strategies for these very stressful exams.
