Bio

Hi! My name is Ryan and I am particularly driven by helping students, in the statistics/mathematics and Earth-related sciences, come to their own discoveries and conceptual revelations. Hi! My name is Ryan and I am particularly driven by helping students, in the statistics/mathematics and Earth-related sciences, come to their own discoveries and conceptual revelations. Not only is it rewarding for me to see that I have helped a student understand a concept or how to solve a problem, it is much more satisfying bearing witness to a students hard work and devotion manifest in empowering self-realisations that they are indeed able to succeed in the face of doubt and adversity. Everyone should have an unimpeded pathway to succeed at their own scholarly pursuits be it for their own personal curiosities or for their academic coursework.

I have about 5 years of tutoring experience. While completing my B.S. in Meteorology at California University of Pennsylvania I served as a tutor (~2yrs) in basic maths and Earth Sciences. More recently, and having since completed a M.A. in Geography at Kent State University and teaching assistantships, I've taken my talents in tutoring mostly Statistics, Algebra 1, Earth and Environmental Sciences, as well as Excel (focusing on its uses in statistics) and coding in Matlab to online platforms such as tutor(.)com and TutorMe (~3yrs) where I was able to guide many grateful students to their success, spanning early elementary up to the Master's level. While I am most comfortable offering guidance to students at the undergraduate level, I am happy to continue expanding my skills and strengthening my approaches in catering to others too!

To have productive sessions and a positive effect on students requires that the tutor be open-minded, observant, flexible, and ready in the moment to adapt to best support the needs of the student; all of which I pridefully embody. I do expect students to be honest, actively engaged in material, and put forth effort consistent with their needs, abilities, and requests; I do adhere to academic integrity policies and instill it's importance unto others. Send me a message! How may I help you?

Geometry

Geometry

For my undergraduate work I minored in mathematics and offered tutoring in Geometry to my peers with the university's Academic Development Services. Additionally, I have 3+ years of experience tutoring geometry students online, mostly high school aged.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I have 6+ years of experience working in MATLAB mostly in the context of research that I have worked on during my thesis and my PhD and various projects therein. I first started to learn MATLAB actually by creating a Monopoly game score keeper and visualizer where I got to have fun chasing my innate coding and problem solving curiosities. This journey transitioned into a more technical pursuit as I worked on my thesis and dissertation work largely manipulating large atmospheric/climate datasets and investigating different methods of classifying atmospheric patterns to disentangle normal weather variability and extreme weather. I love problem solving and MATLAB has become a very familiar tool in which to solve problems and make visualizations to better understand complex topics. Having said that, it is a very rewarding experience to motivate students to explore coding and to exercise their creativity by making unique and efficient approaches to solve problems.
Statistics

Statistics

My undergraduate minor was in mathematics and the related statistics courses I completed were; statistics, applied regression, statistical analysis. My graduate cognate work to my Geography M.A. related to statistics included; quantitative methods, reproducible quantitative methods, biostatistics. Additionally, I have 3+ years of online experience tutoring statistics students who are high school aged up to students working on their masters degrees.
