Hi, I'm Garrett — your math tutor.

With 18+ years of combined teaching and tutoring experience, I help students build real understanding, not just memorize steps. Whether you need to:

> Review a specific topic before it trips you up or causes stress
> Get ahead on upcoming material before it becomes too confusing
> Prepare for a test, midterm, or final exam, or just casually review material

...I can tailor sessions to exactly what you need! My approach follows a proven "I do, we do, you do" model — I demonstrate, we practice together, then you take the lead with confidence. It's helped students turn around struggling grades, walk into exams prepared, and actually enjoy math again.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Over my multi-year teaching and tutoring career, I have led several classes in Algebra I (in-person and virtually) and have aided students in increasing their fluency with respect to the trickiest of concepts. My aim is to clarify, correct, and reinforce the most basic and foundational Algebra I concepts, such as factoring, quadratic functions, and solving linear equations, so students can push their bounds of learning. Using repetition and an "I-do, we-do, you-do" format, my students get the most of their learning with my lessons and often leave with a greater sense of understanding and confidence in their knowledge of Algebra I.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Over my multi-year teaching and tutoring career, I have led several classes in Algebra II and have aided students in increasing their fluency with respect to the trickiest of concepts. My aim is to clarify, correct, and reinforce the most basic and foundational Algebra II concepts, such as factoring, higher-level functions, probability and statistics, trigonometry, and matricies, so students can push their bounds of learning and are better prepared for Pre-Calculus. Using repetition and an "I-do, we-do, you-do" format, my students get the most of their learning with my lessons and often leave with a greater sense of understanding and confidence in their knowledge of Algebra II.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

Over the course of many years, I have worked with multiple elementary-aged students on their various math topics. My goal with any younger student is to ensure their foundational understanding is concrete and automatic before expanding into more detailed topics. By making sure the background knowledge is strong and the student is comfortable with the ideas and topics being discussed, I am adequately able to extend the lesson into more examples and practice with problem-solving and applications of various topics.
Geometry

Geometry

Over my multi-year teaching and tutoring career, I have led several classes in Geometry (both high school and college level) and have aided students in increasing their fluency with respect to the trickiest of concepts. My aim is to clarify, correct, and reinforce the most basic and foundational workings of Geometry, especially in troublesome areas such as Euclidian (two-column) proofs and multi-step modeling problems (including those involving volume and/or trigonometry), so students can push their bounds of learning. Using repetition and an "I-do, we-do, you-do" format, my students get the most out of their learning with my lessons and often leave with a greater sense of understanding and confidence in their knowledge of Geometry.
Physics

Physics

In my most recent school district, I taught both Conceptual Physics (project-based) and traditional Physics courses, working with students at a range of skill levels and learning styles. I focused on making physics approachable by connecting mathematical concepts to real-world applications and helping students understand not only how to solve a problem, but why the physics works. Hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and practical scenarios allowed students to visualize abstract concepts and build confidence in applying them. My goal is to help students develop a strong conceptual foundation while becoming more comfortable and successful with the mathematics of physics.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

In previous teaching assignments, I have taught middle school mathematics and prealgebra courses to multiple students/school districts. Here, my aim is to cement foundational concepts such as solving linear equations, order of operations, exponential expressions and properties, and work with quadratic/polynomial functions. By making these functions and topics foundational, students have a concrete support for Algebra I courses taken at the high-school level.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Over my multi-year career as a teacher and tutor, I have experience working with students on higher-level Pre-Calculus topics. My aim with Pre-Calculus is to reinforce the Algebra 2 topics that are reviewed and expanded upon in Pre-Calculus. The goal is to help students develop successful habits in their problem-solving methods and can satisfactorily expand on their knowledge in Pre-Calculus, setting them up for success in Calculus (whether as AP Calculus or college-level).
Regents

Regents

As a former New York State teacher with multiple years of experience teaching, proctoring, and grading NYS Regents examinations, I have a strong understanding of both the content students are expected to master and the skills they need to demonstrate on the exam. I can help students identify areas of weakness, strengthen their understanding of key concepts, and develop effective strategies for approaching multiple-choice and constructed-response questions. For students preparing to take or retake a Regents exam, I focus on building both subject-matter confidence and familiarity with the expectations and format of the examination. My goal is to provide targeted, practical preparation that helps students enter the exam feeling prepared, confident, and capable of demonstrating what they know.
SAT Math

SAT Math

In my years as a tutor for various versions of the SAT Exam (math sections), my focus is to help students achieve the highest possible math section scores that I can by emphasizing appropriate and successful test-taking strategies. Whereas most students understand the material but struggle with focus and methodology on the test, my expertiese is in finding new ways to approach questions and solve problems with minimal work and to become aware of tricks and devices that will help students solve more questions and increase their confidence during the studying and testing processes.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I have designed and taught a wholly-elective Trigonometry course in a past teaching assignment. This course focused entirely on mostly all components of trigonometry, from right-triangles to angle measurements and forms, the six trigonometric ratios, trig. equations and identities, and non-right-triangle trigonometry. Expanding on these topics lets students have a solid foundation to expand on other similar topics in higher-level courses such as Pre-Calculus and Calculus.

Knowledgeable, effective, and easy going tutor

Garrett was a great tutor and I made a great connection with him during our lessons. He was very patient and helped me understand concepts that were complex for me. I became a more confident pre-calculus student and I ended up with a good grade. I will definitely recommend Garrett if you want to succeed in math.

Game changer

My son has been working with Garrett for a few months now and is gaining so much confidence. Prior to tutoring he struggled so much with even motivation to complete assignments because it was just so daunting for him. He literally dreaded it. Now, he is doing really well and his teacher has even noticed a big change. I would highly recommend Garrett!!

Excellent knowledge and excellent delivery

Garret has been tutoring my daughter in pre-calc trigonometry. This is something she was struggling with and required help. Garret is able to walk her through the concepts and show her how to solve the problems. He knows the subject really well and can easily solve the problems off the top of his head. He does a really thorough job of explaining his approach and alternate approaches. My daughter's comprehension of the subject has greatly improved and so has her scores.

Great Math Teacher

Garrett has done a great job working with my daughter. He's been working with her on Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus. She's passing her math class now and is getting more confident and independent. He's been great to pull problems like she'll have on her tests to work on with her and make sure she'll pass. We're definitely going to keep working with him.
