Hi, I'm Garrett — your math tutor.

With 18+ years of combined teaching and tutoring experience, I help students build real understanding, not just memorize steps. Whether you need to:

> Get ahead on upcoming material before it becomes too confusing
> Prepare for a test, midterm, or final exam
> Just casually review material to get ahead of the game

...I can tailor sessions to exactly what you need! My approach follows a proven "I do, we do, you do" model — I demonstrate, we practice together, then you take the lead with confidence. It's helped students turn around struggling grades, walk into exams prepared, and actually enjoy math again.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

With years of experience tutoring students through the ACT math section, my focus is on maximizing scores through smart, efficient test-taking strategies — especially given the ACT's tighter time constraints. Most students already know the material — what trips them up is pacing and approach, so I specialize in teaching faster, cleaner ways to solve problems and spot the shortcuts the test rewards. Students leave not just knowing the math better, but feeling more confident and in control heading into test day.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

With years of experience teaching Algebra I both in-person and online, I know exactly where students tend to get stuck — and how to get them unstuck. I focus on building real fluency with the foundational concepts, like factoring, quadratic functions, and solving linear equations, so students have a solid base to build on. My "I do, we do, you do" approach means students aren't just watching me solve problems — they're practicing until it clicks. Students consistently leave our sessions with more confidence and a clearer understanding of Algebra I.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

With years of experience teaching Algebra II both in-person and online, I know where students tend to get stuck — and how to get them unstuck. I focus on building real fluency across the full range of Algebra II, from factoring and higher-level functions to trigonometry, matrices, and probability and statistics, so students walk into Pre-Calculus fully prepared. My "I do, we do, you do" approach means students aren't just watching me solve problems — they're practicing until it clicks. Students consistently leave our sessions with more confidence and a clearer understanding of Algebra II.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I've spent many years working with elementary-aged students across a wide range of math topics. My goal with younger learners is always the same: make sure foundational skills are concrete and automatic before moving on to anything more advanced. Once that groundwork is solid and students feel comfortable with the core ideas, we can confidently expand into more challenging problem-solving and real-world applications.
Geometry

Geometry

With years of experience teaching Geometry at both the high school and college level, I know where students tend to get stuck — and how to get them unstuck. I focus on building real fluency in the areas that trip students up most, like two-column proofs and multi-step modeling problems involving volume and trigonometry, so students can push their learning further with confidence. My "I do, we do, you do" approach means students aren't just watching me solve problems — they're practicing until it clicks. Students consistently leave our sessions with more confidence and a clearer understanding of Geometry.
Physics

Physics

I've taught both Conceptual (project-based) and traditional Physics courses, working with students across a range of skill levels and learning styles. My focus is on making physics approachable — connecting the math to real-world applications and helping students understand not just how to solve a problem, but why the physics works. Hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and practical scenarios help students visualize abstract concepts and build real confidence applying them. The goal: a strong conceptual foundation paired with genuine comfort in the math behind it.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I've taught middle school math and Pre-Algebra courses across multiple schools and districts, working with students at all levels of readiness. My focus is on cementing the concepts that matter most going forward — solving linear equations, order of operations, exponential expressions and properties, and an introduction to quadratic and polynomial functions. By building this foundation early and solidly, students walk into Algebra I with the confidence and skills to hit the ground running.
Precalculus

Precalculus

With years of experience as a teacher and tutor, I work with students on the full range of higher-level Pre-Calculus topics. My approach starts by reinforcing the Algebra II foundations that Pre-Calculus builds on, then develops the problem-solving habits students need to expand their knowledge with confidence. Along the way, we review key Algebra II concepts like polynomial and rational functions while building toward Calculus-level ideas such as limits and sequences and series. The goal is straightforward: set students up for success in Calculus, whether that's AP Calculus or a college-level course.
Regents

Regents

As a former New York State teacher with multiple years of experience teaching, proctoring, and grading NYS Regents examinations, I have a strong understanding of both the content students are expected to master and the skills they need to demonstrate on the exam. I can help students identify areas of weakness, strengthen their understanding of key concepts, and develop effective strategies for approaching multiple-choice and constructed-response questions. For students preparing to take or retake a Regents exam, I focus on building both subject-matter confidence and familiarity with the expectations and format of the examination. My goal is to provide targeted, practical preparation that helps students enter the exam feeling prepared, confident, and capable of demonstrating what they know.
SAT Math

SAT Math

With years of experience tutoring students through multiple versions of the SAT math sections, my focus is on maximizing scores through smart, efficient test-taking strategies. Most students already know the material — what trips them up is time pressure and approach, so I specialize in teaching faster, cleaner ways to solve problems and spot the tricks the test relies on. Students leave not just knowing the math better, but feeling more confident and in control heading into test day.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I designed and taught a dedicated Trigonometry course from the ground up, covering the full scope of the subject — right triangles, angle measurement, the six trigonometric ratios, trig equations and identities, and non-right-triangle trigonometry. Having built the course myself, I know exactly how these pieces fit together and where students typically need extra support. That same expertise also makes me a strong resource when trigonometry comes up as a unit within other courses, like the trig sections in Geometry and Algebra II. This solid foundation sets students up to succeed in higher-level courses like Pre-Calculus and Calculus.

Knowledgeable, effective, and easy going tutor

Garrett was a great tutor and I made a great connection with him during our lessons. He was very patient and helped me understand concepts that were complex for me. I became a more confident pre-calculus student and I ended up with a good grade. I will definitely recommend Garrett if you want to succeed in math.

Game changer

My son has been working with Garrett for a few months now and is gaining so much confidence. Prior to tutoring he struggled so much with even motivation to complete assignments because it was just so daunting for him. He literally dreaded it. Now, he is doing really well and his teacher has even noticed a big change. I would highly recommend Garrett!!

Excellent knowledge and excellent delivery

Garret has been tutoring my daughter in pre-calc trigonometry. This is something she was struggling with and required help. Garret is able to walk her through the concepts and show her how to solve the problems. He knows the subject really well and can easily solve the problems off the top of his head. He does a really thorough job of explaining his approach and alternate approaches. My daughter's comprehension of the subject has greatly improved and so has her scores.

Great Math Teacher

Garrett has done a great job working with my daughter. He's been working with her on Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus. She's passing her math class now and is getting more confident and independent. He's been great to pull problems like she'll have on her tests to work on with her and make sure she'll pass. We're definitely going to keep working with him.
