Hello there! My name is Garrett, and I am looking forward to being your tutor as we navigate the tricky world of mathematics together. I am a certified math teacher having taught math classes from 6th grade math through Pre-Calculus and college-level mathematics over 8 years. As an experienced math tutor of over 10 years, my greatest strength is found in stripping down a student's problem areas to identify the key component(s) of struggle and identifying new and unique ways to overcome general and specific issues related to math. My approach revolves around the "Three Ws" of self-identification when it comes to problems with math: What do I already know? Where is my issue found? Why do I make this mistake? When a student recognizes their errors themselves along with the reasons why mistakes are made, this gives them the chance to reflect on their learning and help cement the correct strategies in their minds. From here, with repetition and reflection, students can eliminate simple mistakes and expand on concepts with relative ease. Securing your understanding awaits!

Having taught and tutored a wide range of subjects over the course of 10+ years, my confidence in various subjects gives me the ability to challenge students of all different learning styles and abilities; pushing them beyond their comfort zones and helping them to realize their full potential. From middle school math through Pre-Calculus, I have taught students at all grade levels, courses, and have used multiple strategies to bring the best out of each client I have worked with. Students who have worked with me in the past see increases in grades, test scores, but most importantly boosts in their confidence and understanding - the ultimate goal for any tutor. A student who works with me will NEVER simply "watch and learn" how to complete a problem. My lessons and interactions are all "dive-in" lessons: Students will spend a full session engrossed in high-quality math study in the hopes to better their ability to problem solve with math

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Over my teaching and tutoring career, I have led several classes in Algebra I (both one and two-year formats) and have driven students to increase their understanding of tricky concepts. My aim is to reinforce the most basic concepts, such as factoring, quadratic functions, and solving linear equations, so students can push their bounds of learning in higher-level topics and classes. I find using repetition and I-do, we-do, you-do formats, my students get the most of their learning with my lessons.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have had the pleasure of teaching and tutoring students in Algebra 2 over multiple years. My areas of expertiese in Algebra 2 include rational and radical expressions, polynomial functions, and logarithmic/exponential functions. Students who have learned under me have seen dramatic increases in their understanding and improved local and state test scores as well.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have over 5+ years of experience both teaching and tutoring both high school and college-level geometry. Students with whom I have tutored or taught gain great insight into the inner-workings of Geometry, especially in troublesome areas such as Euclidian (two-column) proofs and multi-step modeling problems (including those involving volume and/or trigonometry). My aim is to break down individual problems into easier-to-manage chunks so students can master easier topics before creating lasting answers and habits.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

In previous teaching assignments, I have taught middle school mathematics and prealgebra courses to multiple students/school districts. Here, my aim is to cement foundational concepts such as solving linear equations, order of operations, exponential expressions and properties, and work with quadratic/polynomial functions. By making these functions and topics foundational, students have a concrete support for Algebra I courses taken at the high-school level.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I have experience in tutoring and teaching senior-level Pre-Calculus topics to various students. My aim with Pre-Calculus is to reinforce the Algebra 2 topics that are reviewed in Pre-Calculus so that students become habitual in their problem-solving methods and can satisfactorily expand on their knowledge in Pre-Calculus, setting them up for success in Calculus (whether as AP Calculus or college-level).

Trigonometry,

Trigonometry

I have designed and taught a wholly-elective Trigonometry course in a past teaching assignment. This course focused entirely on mostly all components of trigonometry, from right-triangles to angle measurements and forms, the six trigonometric ratios, trig. equations and identities, and non-right-triangle trigonometry. Expanding on these topics lets students have a solid foundation to expand on other similar topics in higher-level courses such as Pre-Calculus and Calculus.

Basketball,

Basketball

I have had multiple experiences/opportunities to coach basketball at the HS level. I have coached Modified Boys' basketball for two different school districts, coaching a wide variety of ages and ability levels in my positions. My practices and workouts force students to apply drills and skills in multiple game-type scenarios and helps athletes grow as both individuals and as a team. My techniques focus on the fundamentals of the game (dribbling, shooting, court awareness) so that every athlete can play at their highest level.
Softball

Softball

I have been a softball coach for the past seven (7) years coaching my own 16-and-under travel/recreation softball team. As a softball coach, my area of strength revolves around knowing the rules of the game and how to apply these to game-time situations so that every athlete is more prepared for any type of play. Practices and lessons I provide focus on areas the individual athlete is deficient in and where we can strengthen these areas, as well as areas the athlete may not have considered before (positions, batting styles) and how they may be of use to the athlete in the future. As a softball official of over 16 years (from little league to high school and travel softball), my knowledge and study of the rules of the game give me the greatest advantage as a coach and help me bestow my information to my players to bring them to their highest level of competition possible.
