Teaching is my passion and I love teaching. I know each student has a different way of understanding different subjects. Their maturity level also differs. In the first instance, I would try to understand the specific level of the student in the given subject and move on from there. My first goal is to make the student enjoy the subject. I would try my level best to help the student to understand the basic concepts, develop his/her self-confidence, and help him/her achieve the best results by focusing on his/her weakest points and solving as many problems as possible quickly and correctly.

I have completed my BS in environmental science with a chemistry major at the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. After my graduation, I worked as a high school chemistry teacher where I taught chemistry for ` 6 years. In this role, I coach students for the island wise highly competitive exam which determines the student’s university placement.

When I was teaching at high school, I completed a post-graduate diploma in Education from the Open University of Sri Lanka as a professional degree for teaching. After I completed seven years of teaching, I moved to the USA to pursue my graduate studies. I earned my MS in Chemistry and obtained my PhD in Materials Chemistry from the University of South Dakota, USA. During my graduate studies, I worked as a teaching assistant for two years and got an Outstanding Teaching Assistant award. I teach chemistry for UK-based exam boards EDEXCEL, OCR, and AQA for both AS and AL. I tutor High School Students who enrolled in Chemistry and coach students for New York State Chemistry Regents exams to obtain the best possible score. In addition, I coach/train students for AP Chemistry, MCAT, and chemistry SAT. In the US, I have almost 10 years of teaching /tutoring experience for multi-level students ages from high school to undergraduates. Overall, I have ~17 years of chemistry teaching experience.
