My name is Sajal, and I'm currently a first year Neurosurgery resident in Rochester, NY.
Teaching has always been a passion of mine, having been a martial arts instructor, a college fencing coach, and a tutor for high school, undergraduate, and graduate-level courses. I believe that everything can be taught to be interesting and fun, and anything difficult can be made easy to learn.

My major was in biology but I have a broad background in the natural sciences, having excelled in a number of upper level courses in biology, chemistry, and physics, and having tutored other students for many of them. I also have an extensive research background through my published work on cancer genetics in college, and translational research in medical school on stroke and cerebrovascular neurosurgery.
I have a special passion for writing education, having been formally trained as a writing tutor at an undergraduate writing center. Since then, I've worked with hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students on papers of all sorts. I have experience in helping students at all levels of the writing process, from the overall structure and flow of the paper to the nitty-gritty vocabulary and grammar. My extensive experience as a writing tutor has provided me with not just the knowledge, but also the ability to conference effectively to help a writer to produce their best work.

As a medical student, I have also helped numerous students through the medical application process (essay editing, interview practice, and coaching), as well as with test preparation for the MCAT, STEP1, or STEP2 exams.

Let's schedule a time to talk about anything you'd like to work on. I look forward to meeting you!

Amazing tutor

I was blown away by Sajal. Not only were his writing skills up to par, but he went the extra mile to help me on my medical school essays. He displayed great knowledge, experience, and intelligence. He turned some of the most awkward phrases into smooth ones. Sajal is not only a great tutor, but also someone who really cares for his students’ success. Thanks again!

A Diamond in the Rough!

Sajal is by far one of the best tutors I have ever worked with. He has a wealth of knowledge about Genetics and writing research papers. He has helped me to regain the fundamentals I need in structuring and writing a scientific research paper. He is very professional, patient, and challenges you to think critically.

Deep knowledge in sciences with strong teaching skills

Tutoring done in cell biology college level course. Sajal has a superb knowledge base that enables him to tutor without requiring the student to provide much background material apart from the questions (unlike many tutors). He connects the material to the "big picture" allowing students to think about questions they may not have encountered. Fantastic high quality patient tutor, would love to continue to use him for tutoring in many different subjects.

Incredible Tutor

I reached out to Sajal for help with a scientific presentation on a cancer therapy paper, and I couldn't have been more impressed! Sajal demonstrated an incredible depth of knowledge on the topic. He prepared exceptionally well before our session, ensuring a thorough understanding and an effective teaching strategy. What I appreciated most was his patience and willingness to tailor the session according to my needs, asking how I wanted to approach the material to get the most out of the session. I would highly recommend Sajal!

Sajal Review

Was very quick to respond. Feedback was concise and clear. Feedback made sense and was not extraneous. Was also good about giving secondary feedback or explaining further his primary feedback.
