I am an experienced tutor who is available to work with students either one-on-one or in small groups. I take a personal interest in each student's progress and tailor the lessons according to the needs of the individual.
For SAT prep, I focus on strategies and test-taking skills, as well as practice and explanations with actual testing material. I am able to teach and review math skills and operations, as well as English grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension specific to the SAT. I can help students hone writing skills for the essay portion of the SAT exam.
In addition to SAT prep, I am an experienced math tutor for middle school math through Regents geometry. I have experience tutoring students with a variety of different learning styles, including students with IEPs. In addition to academics, I provide support and encouragement, emphasize strengths, and focus on creating a positive, fun learning experience. I hold a B.A. in English from the University of Rochester, as well as a B.S. in Biology and D.P.M. medical degree from Scholl College in Chicago. Very knowledgeable about the SAT and how to work through them. She is helping my daughter sort through the "hidden meaning" of questions and helping to build her self-confidence as to her test-taking capabilities.
Highly recommended this tutor!
Cynthia was a excellent tutor for my son who was studing to take the SAT. He has accommodations that allow for him to have a reader. She tailored her instruction to help him learn the same way that he would when taking the test. They reviewed strategies and tips to be successful when taking the test. Her schedule was very flexible and she worked around some of our challenges with availability. I would recommend Cynthia for SAT prep.
Cynthia is a great tutor! She offers effective strategies individually tailored to the student. Her knowledge of the ACT and SAT is unmatched. I appreciate her frankness as she is realistic in her expectations of increases in test scores.
Cynthia is very patient, passionate, and precise!!!! I enjoyed our lesson and I'm confident that with her help I will pass my TEAS exam! Thank you Cynthia!

Cynthia was very helpful with my daughter and we are so relieved to be able to get her the help she needs before the summer ends. THank you Cynthia!! Amelia is looking forward to meeting again next week.
Cynthia worked with my son on writing. She is very knowledgeable and kind. She individualizes her lessons to meet the needs of her students. I highly recommend her.
Her instruction moves forward at a steady pace after she assesses the student's understanding, which she is continually looking at. Offers and provides useful resources.
Looked at material for upcoming test and broke it down into different topics . Made plans for future sessions to plan how we will cover all the topics by the test. Easy to talk to and I'm confident I will learn the material with her !
We are very pleased with Cynthia approach to the needs of our son.
She is very patient, knowledgable, and detailed. She is really involved with passion to what she is presenting in science and math and goes above and beyond in terms of information for material. Our son improved his grades by 15% and gained more confidence in the subjects.
Cynthia seems to be building a good relationship with my daughter. She is patient with my daughter when she doesn't quite seem to understand the problems. My daughter seems to understand what Cynthia is teaching.
Thank you so much!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The TEAS exam (Test of Essential Academic Skills) is an admissions test for nursing school. It includes tests of reading, English, math, and science. I have experience tutoring both the TEAS and the TABE (a different nursing school admissions test) which is similar to the TEAS albeit less challenging. Not only am I an experienced math tutor (algebra, geometry, and SAT/ACT prep), I hold a BA in English from the University of Rochester and BS Biology and DPM (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine) degrees from Scholl College in Chicago. My educational background includes an entire spectrum of college-level biology and chemistry courses in addition to the math and English courses.
