Hello! My name is Robert. I am restarting my tutoring journey as a way to help others understand the basic math and science concepts that made me fall in love with mechanical engineering, the field in which I'm currently pursuing my PhD at the University of Rochester. About 3 years ago, I accrued about 30 hours of tutoring experience in my home state of Florida, and had great reviews. I believe I can do even better this time around. As I dive back in, I plan to focus as much on what my clients know as on what they don't know. This way, we build the student’s confidence in the subject while also helping me gauge where misunderstandings might be occurring or where we need to spend more time.

As for my credentials, I earned my Bachelor’s in Math and Physics from the University of Florida (now the #4 public university in the nation!) with a 3.92 GPA. In high school, I scored 1580 on the SAT and 35 on the ACT. Besides the 30 hours of tutoring experience I mentioned earlier, I was a graduate teaching assistant for three semesters for Senior Mechanical Design, University of Rochester’s capstone mechanical engineering design course. My day job is at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, where I frequently collaborate with scientists from different academic backgrounds to realize experiments that advance our understanding of stellar cores and nuclear fusion.

In my free time, I love playing soccer with friends and reading philosophy.

Calculus

Calculus

I recently graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics. That means I was using all the concepts of Calculus 1-3 on a daily basis in various major-specific courses. One of the courses I took is Advanced Calculus, in which we proved all the results of Calculus 1-3 from some basic axioms about numbers, sets, and distance. Calculus is the science of infinity. What is the concept of infinity and how do we apply it to solve math questions that we didn't know we were allowed to ask? These are the questions that calculus poses, and I will work with you to understand the answers.
Physics

Physics

In high school I took AP Physics 1 & 2. Though my teacher was helpful, I gained most of my knowledge by reading the textbook, taking notes, and doing practice problems. This style of learning, though time-consuming, granted me a deeper understanding of the concepts of physics than would have been possible during regular classroom time. Using these strategies, I studied my way to 5's on both the algebra-based AP Physics exams. Having done the brunt of the work, I can point you to the crucial concepts you need to succeed. My thorough foundation and background as a math double major has led me to the same facility with college-level Physics 1 & 2 with Calculus.

Very helpful and accommodating.

Robert was very busy in his own life but took time to help me out. I was not rushed and he provided clear and insightful examples to the questions I asked. If I need I would absolutely use his services again.

Awesome tutor.

Robert was able to explain things in a way that really made sense. He used relevant examples and made sure I had a grasp of the topic before moving on. Overall it was a great session!
