I tend to enjoy explaining things, and as a result I love to teach. I have worked with many students throughout my time as a tutor, and it is exciting for me to watch their hard work pay off and result in success.

I tutored students of all ages for four years during my time at Wheaton College, where I earned my bachelor's degree in mathematics. I was also a teaching assistant for seven different professors and classes in the math department during my time there. I have always enjoyed my experiences teaching and tutoring math students in various settings. I spent my first year out of college teaching math to sixth, seventh and eighth graders at a private middle school, and I am now a full-time online math teacher for grades 7-12.

I am a numbers person first and foremost, and I specialize in math subjects at all levels up to high school level math. I also specialize in test prep for math subject tests in both the ACT and SAT. I believe that the best way for one to learn is in a one-on-one setting in which the teacher can fully personalize the explanations to the needs of the student. I try to take the approach of first gauging where the student is at in terms of knowledge and understanding as well as their learning style, and then building on that foundation to get to the point where he or she needs to be.

I have always held myself to a higher standard than most, and the word complacency is not in my vocabulary. That being said, I would very much appreciate any feedback that I can get. No matter how good one becomes at something, there is always room for improvement in every area of life. I will take any and all feedback that I receive, regardless of whether it is positive or negative, and use it to better myself as a tutor and as an individual.

I am excited to hear from you and to have the opportunity to guide you in your educational journey!

Quickly helping!

In just a couple lessons my son's average in math doubled! My son has refused other tutors before but really enjoys Calvin and using the Wyzant online lessons. I highly recommend trying them out! Calvin works really well with my son and talks in ways he understands. His scores reflect his response to tutoring!

Excellent Geometry Support

Calvin Helped with high school Geometry and was professional, patient and knowledgeable. This was our first time using Wyzant at the recommendation of a friend. We were not sure what to expect. Calvin’s lessons and professional approach encourage us to use the service more in the future..

We started out our first lesson with connection issues and Calvin was very patient and made up the time we lost. This was more helpful overall than anticipated and having an online tutoring session is much easier than expected.
