As a special education teacher with over a decade of experience in private boarding schools, I've had the honor of supporting students with dyslexia, ADHD, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ASD, anxiety, depression, and executive functioning challenges. From literature classrooms to personalized language sessions and self-directed learning programs, I aim to make learning accessible and enjoyable for all. While I can assist with most subjects, my specialties include Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, English, Literature, Writing, Executive Functioning, Special Needs, Study Skills, and self-advocacy.

My passion for education extends beyond the classroom. For 16 years, I've run a private tutoring practice helping students from middle school through college (and even the occasional teacher!). I believe in a student-centered approach that emphasizes progressive education and innovation. During sessions together, I prioritize kind oversight, build strong relationships, and collaborate without judgment. Together, we explore your understanding and set achievable goals—helping you gain the confidence to advocate for yourself and learn independently.

This love for learning is something I carry into my own journey. I hold an A.A. in Liberal Arts and Humanities (Honors Track) and a B.A. in Literature, which provides a solid foundation for my work. Currently, I'm exploring graduate programs to enhance my leadership skills and expand my educational toolkit. This commitment to lifelong learning allows me to continually refine my approach and ensure the best outcomes for my students.

If my services resonate with you, let’s connect! I’m open to discussing a flexible fee and would be happy to schedule a free consultation. There's no risk in reaching out—I'd love to see how we can work together!

Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

ADHD is perhaps the most common diagnosis in the students that comprise my current caseload. While it may present with subtle differences across individuals, I prove mindful of my students' attention and cognitive loads. Breaks and reteaching are fair game, for I want to make sure my students understand a topic.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I support students learning Algebra 1 multiple times per week. I have taught the topic for many years. Over a decade ago, I even curated a curriculum, planned lessons, and designed/evaluated tests on the topic for a homeschooled client.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I support students enrolled in Algebra 2 on a weekly basis. I find that I frequently need to reach content from Algebra 1, Geometry, and Trigonometry to help an individual ramp up to their current problem sets. I enjoy that process, as the learner is able to develop their proficiency while "plugging holes" in past topics.
American History

American History

My students currently enrolled in American History often struggle to understand primary sources and structure longer research essays. I help by collaboratively chunking reading, discussing texts with them, and scaffolding the composition process (even from start to finish, if needed).
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I'm an educator who regularly supports students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I began that work as a home program tutor in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) working under a Board-Certified Behavioral Analysis (BCBA). I moved on from that role and school of thought. In my current role, I personalize my support to the student, any co-diagnoses, etc.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

For 5 years, I served in various roles at a private boarding school that exclusively served dyslexic adolescents. As a result, I learned and applied various approaches, including Orton-Gillingham language remediation, multi-sensory whole-class instruction, and others. I continue to support dyslexic learners in my current role.
English

English

I taught English to students in grades 11 and 12 for 6 years earlier in my career. We studied various texts, and I designed, facilitated, and evaluated numerous writing tasks (e.g., argumentative essays, informative pieces, creative writing). I continue to offer support on the composition process and reading skills in my current role.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have tutored in essay writing since I was still a high school student myself. I also wrote a senior thesis as an undergraduate as well as numerous papers of varying lengths and purposes. As a teacher, I have been trained in Orton-Gillingham and studied other methods in order to offer explicit, discrete instruction on the elements of essay writing. I continue to help students develop their papers on a weekly basis.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I am a high school educator who exclusively serves students with learning differences. In my role, I teach 2 tiers of classes: one focused solely on developing executive functioning skills, and another that combines that growth with subject matter remediation. Additionally, I privately tutor 1+ students to help them develop plans for their workload and to address specialty topics (e.g., personal statements). During every meeting together, a student and I collaborate to help them refine their learning systems, approaches to assignments, and communication strategies.
Grammar

Grammar

I received a deeper instruction in grammar through various English classes at college, especially one centered exclusively on the topic to better assist students in a Writing Center. I furthered that knowledge while serving as an Orton-Gillingham tutor for several years. I also provide assistance on grammar in my current role.
Literature

Literature

I completed college-level English classes while a high school senior. As a Literature major in college, I studied texts across various cultures but with a particular focus on America. To graduate, I composed and defended an 80+ page thesis. Finally, I designed curricula and taught literature as a high school English teacher at two private boarding schools.
Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Windows laptops and desktops regularly since the release of Windows 7. I use these devices for both personal and professional purposes. My experience includes initiating updates, clearing unnecessary files, troubleshooting issues, adjusting settings and display options, and organizing file systems.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I have composed multiple personal statements in my personal life. As a high school teacher and advisor, I have supported students in creating their own to apply to internships, summer programs, colleges, and jobs. During that process, we brainstorm, identify, and discuss the values and aspects of their lives that matter most to them and the purpose of a given task. We always create multiple drafts to optimize a piece so that it is as efficient and impactful as possible.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I regularly assist high school students in Algebra 1 and 2. Prealgebra offers the building blocks for those subjects, and I occasionally need to reteach those to assist my students in understanding a particular problem or procedure.
Proofreading

Proofreading

There are many ways to proofread and revise written works, and I've experimented with those as a Literature major in college, former English teacher, Orton-Gillingham tutor, and special education teacher. Often, I'll discuss those strategies with students and determine which work best for them given their profile and preferences.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I teach students with ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, executive functioning deficits, mental health challenges, and other diagnoses. I have worked with those populations across 2 private boarding schools and in my tutoring practice. I have designed curricula, provided language remediation, and offered academic support in various contexts.
Study Skills

Study Skills

For those students who don't know how to study effectively, I use a two-pronged approach. I facilitate review sessions to prep for a test using my knowledge of neuroscience, such as multiple modalities to demonstrate learning. I also introduce test preparation strategies for individual use and help students select and experiment with them.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

To earn my B.A., I successfully wrote and defended an 80+ page thesis under the supervision of my advisor. I have experience writing papers of medium length (e.g., 11-30 pages) as well. Through my experience as an English and special education teacher, I regularly offer instruction on the building blocks of argumentative writing.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I have long taught students how to annotate and read actively. (In fact, I have a slide deck on just that topic!) Vocabulary is a crucial focus in that process and to reading comprehension. I support students in that field through varied means depending on their needs and preferences.
Writing

Writing

To graduate from my Literature program, I composed and defended a senior thesis of 80+ pages. That experience, my time in a Writing Center in college, as well as my teaching experience in English classrooms and my current role have provided me with nuanced understandings of the writing process for numerous tasks.
