After many years of teaching and over 2200 hours of 5-star tutoring, I have established myself as one of Manhattan's premier private tutors. I have helped hundreds of students achieve their SHSAT, PSAT, SAT, ACT, GMAT and GRE goals and secure their places at schools such as Stuyvesant, Groton, Harvard, Stanford, Wharton and Columbia. I have also helped students from Columbia, NYU and globally (online) prepare for their exams in Finance, Economics, Investments, Statistics and Econometrics. Many graduates with Econ majors have hired me to teach them Finance and Investment Theory and forego the time and expense of an MBA altogether. I also help students navigate complex real estate valuation and LBO spreadsheets for both classroom related learning and real life investing.

TEST PREP: Many of my students spend enormous resources with classes, tutors and self-study only to find themselves stuck at the 600/85% level. This happens, especially for the Math section of the exams, because they have practiced and reinforced a brute-force approach which takes too many steps, too much time and forces careless mistakes. I teach my students how to think efficiently and find the elegant solutions. Instead of spending 4 minutes on a problem and getting it wrong, imagine doing it in 30 seconds and getting it right! That's how you get to 780. Many of my students wish they had contacted me first instead of going with a cheaper option. In the end, I may seem expensive but I am actually cost effective because I get results.

I have three Ivy League degrees, and I am a retired finance professor and a 20-year Wall Street hedge fund manager. I have taught finance, economics, investments and business at the collegiate and graduate level. I love to teach. I won the teaching award while at Columbia Business School. I bring both advanced teaching skills and real world career experience to motivate the learning process. I know how to explain complex concepts in an easy to understand manner. I am easy to relate to and develop a long-term mentoring relationship with my students.

I struggled in high school. I know what that's like. Then, my parents hired a tutor, a PhD in Philosophy and Mathematics, and my life changed forever. My tutor taught me how to think clearly, efficiently and precisely. Most importantly, my tutor made learning FUN and EXCITING! I aced the SAT and later the LSAT. I scored 99.99+% on the GMAT. It was the top score in the country that year. I received numerous scholarships for my education. I won Harvard Law School's Litigation Competition and served as a prosecutor in Massachusetts. I won the Columbia Business School teaching award and became a professor of finance. I then had a successful career on Wall Street.

Now, I give back by doing what I truly love to do- help my students succeed. I have students of all ages. I home-schooled my own kids K-12 and got them into Harvard College early action. Invest in your or your child's education. It's worth every penny many times over. The benefits of a great tutor or mentor last a lifetime and are priceless.

I try to be flexible with time and often provide extra over time without charge. I do not charge a cancellation fee. I understand that life sometimes requires lessons to be rescheduled.

I meet my NYC students in their homes and my online students sometimes as late as 2 am or as early as 6 am depending on their time zones. I am selective and do not take just any student. If I choose to work with a motivated student, I will develop a mentoring relationship and often help with application strategies, interview training, and career advice after they graduate.

I am expensive but worth it. I am also flexible and sensitive to a budget. I have a two hour minimum but after that I will often give extra time for free. If you're excited about achieving your goals then contact me and leave me your number and we'll do a free call to get to know one another and explore how I might help you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

After semi-retiring from Wall Street, I have spent the past 5 years establishing myself as one of Manhattan's premier Test Prep Tutors. There are many tutors with Ivy league degrees and top test scores. However, this doesn't mean they excel at teaching others. I have focused my teaching career on how to effectively explain complicated concepts in a manner that is easy to understand. In 1991, I won the teaching award while at Columbia Business School. Quantitative Reasoning: The math portion of the GMAT is not difficult. If you study by yourself, however, or even with an amateur tutor, you are bound to get stuck around 600 level. This is because you are attacking the problems using the long, brute force way you were taught in school. For example, if you ever use the Pythagorean Theorem (a squared plus b squared equals c squared) you are wasting precious time and increasing the probability of making a careless mistake. My students are trained to look for one of the 4 classic right triangles (for example: the three, four, five right triangle) and never brute force the Pythagorean Theorem. Using this approach, they will see the elegant solution in 10-20 seconds and get it right leaving extra time for other problems instead of spending four minutes on a problem and getting it wrong! Most of my students come to me after hours of classes, tutors and self-practice. They tell me they are stuck and can't seem to break through. This is because they need someone who is an expert on the exam to show them three things: 1) the elegant solutions, 2) the mental/psychological traps set by the exam makers and 3) the common mistakes they, in particular, tend to make. Acing this exam is as much about knowing the material as it is about knowing oneself! Before trying to save money with all those classes, go with a tutor who knows what he is doing. I can help you achieve your goals and do so in a cost effective manner. Verbal Reasoning. Improving verbal skills takes time and effort. I teach my students how to practice correctly to mak

A child's development during the elementary school years is extremely important. There are two kinds of students with special needs, those who struggle with obstacles such as ADHD and dyslexia and those who are gifted. Both kinds of students are at risk in public and most private schools. Regular schools are forced to teach to the average student. If your child has special needs, they will not be well served by the limited resources of most schools. If your child is gifted, he or she will find themselves ignored and bored. My recommendation is to supplement your child's education with a private tutor or to take them out of school and home-school them. I have a PhD in Finance and a law degree from Columbia University. I taught business at the collegiate and graduate level. I have tutored students for many years. I also home-schooled my own kids K-12 and got them accepted to Harvard. During the home-schooling process, I hired a k-6th tutor and used various K-6th educational materials including the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt home-schooling series. As my kids got older, I hired various subject tutors to come to my home. Home-schooling doesn't mean the parent has to do all the teaching. Think of is as a private school at home where the parent is the headmaster. I love to teach. I have tutored many Manhattan elementary and middle school students during the last four years. I teach my elementary school students to love reading, writing and math. I also teach them how to hold a conversation with an adult. I teach my middle school students how to think critically and I also start them on SHAT and SAT prep. Most of my students go on to magnet or private high schools including Stuyvesant.

Learning to write well is essential for academic success. When I was young, writing was a mystery to me. Then, my tutor taught me the fundamentals of clear, effective writing. It's confusing because, first, you need to learn all the rules of formal expository writing. You know, the five paragraph essay that starts with an Introduction with a thesis, has three body paragraphs each with a topic sentence, and ends with a conclusion. Then, I teach my students how to relax the rules and write as if they were telling a story. The SAT writing component has a clear structure. I teach my students to this structure and they can formulate a winning essay in minutes. I have a PhD in Finance and a Law degree from Columbia and Harvard Law Schools. I won the teaching award while at Columbia Business School. I have taught numerous students ranging from elementary school students to doctoral candidates. I home-schooled my own kids, K-12, and got them into Harvard Early Action. Learning to write effectively will empower you in all your academic and professional endeavors.

SAT Math

The SAT Math test requires expert guidance. Sure, your high school junior is smart and gets straight A's. And yet, even if she or he loves math, why is it so hard to get a perfect score- the elusive 800. Without expert guidance, the more you practice the more you lock in a 600-700 score. Why? Because it's not what you know but how you think that gets you to 800. In other words, practicing the long, brute force way to do a math problem not only takes time but also increases the probability of a simple careless mistake. 650 means you know the math. 750-800 means you think efficiently, and know yourself. It's rare to get to 800 on your own. And not all tutors can get you there. Most tutors are paid to watch your child do problems. I teach my students how to think and see the elegant solution. Many of my students come to me after hours of SAT classes, SAT tutors and self-practice and tell me that no matter how hard they practice they can't break above the 700 level. I explain to them that it's not about knowing the math but about knowing how to think. I evaluate their strengths and weaknesses and create a plan to get to 780 or even 800! I have established my self as one of Manhattan's premier test prep tutors. In the last couple years, I have taken many students from 600 or less to 750 or greater. My students have been excepted to Harvard, Stanford, Columbia and other top schools. I have tutored and mentored many students on the SAT and the college application process including the interview. I prefer students who come to me early before developing bad habits by trying to study by themselves or in a course. My favorite student are English students who think they hate math. Amanda, for example, told me she hated math. After meeting for 4 months, she started to love math. When she got 770 Verbal and 750 on her math SAT, I was so thrilled for her. Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

SAT Math,

Now she could apply to any school she wanted. I have a PhD in Finance and a law degree from Columbia University. I taught business at the collegiate level. I have tutored st

Writing,

Writing

Learning to write well is essential for academic and business success. Then, you have to learn how to relax the rules and write as if you were telling a story. If you struggle with writing or just need a sharp eye for some editing, please contact me. Test Preparation

GMAT,

GMAT

PSAT,

PSAT

Preparing for the PSAT is a really good idea. Most parents wait till the junior year before they start looking for an SAT tutor. I work with many juniors who have busy school and sports schedules. It takes time to improve one's test score and the more time the better. There are huge advantages if a student starts his or her SAT or ACT test prep by preparing for the PSAT in their sophomore year. Given the lighter schedule and the length of time available, I can improve their PSAT scores but more importantly build the foundation upon which they will Ace the SAT and ACT when the time comes.

Search no further! Brilliant, gifted and passionate tutor.

Search no further for a brilliant, gifted, passionate, and inspiring tutor! My son looked forward to sessions with Dr P. to help prepare for his business school final exams. Dr Park is extremely knowledgeable about all topics relating to business and mathematics. He is on another level of any tutor you will find and does it for the joy of it. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have met him.

Extremely knowledgable and helpful tutor for Macroeconomics!

JD was very helpful, knowledgable, and patient in prepping for a macroeconomics exam. Specifically, we discussed aggregate demand and supply concepts, the SR aggregate supply curve, the LRAS, and the money supply. Thanks, JD!

Elegant Solutions from an Elegant Tutor

I have been tutoring with Dr.Park for more than a month now, and I can tell you that the experience is nothing less than phenomenal. He is wired to understand his student's needs and will do everything to understand your "glitches". More importantly, Dr.Park has cracked the code in recognizing "elegant" solutions to every type of quantitative question, allowing intellectual development. Apart from tutoring, Dr.Park is passionate about several topics enabling amazing conversations. I would recommend Dr.Park for anyone trying to make a difference- I am hoping to nail the GRE/GMAT soon!

Knowledgeable & Patient Tutor

Dr. Park puts finance into layman's terms, which I need since I and finance go together like oil and water. In hindsight, I should have found Dr. Park sooner! I highly recommend Dr. Park if you struggle to make sense of finance.

The best tutior

When Dr JD Park taught me Hedge Fund procedures as well as crypto assets analysis I was already an experienced investor. But Dr Park managed not only to attract my attention but help me to build my own view on various things like Bitcoin and other crypto coins. His knowledge is not just theoretical but practical. If someone eagers to know the "inner kitchen" of financial org. and wants to open them by themselves he is your best option. When he states that he is worth it, he is worth even more!

The best tutor you will ever have

This was by far the best tutor I have had. We went over a lot of statistics based psychology and I felt more confident with statistics with Dr. Park than ever before. He went above and beyond to explain in detail what it is to know and learn statistics and i’m very grateful for his time. PS. He’s also the coolest tutor you’ll ever meet!
