About Wesley

Bio

Hi, my name is Wesley. Having attended both Stuyvesant High School and MIT, I am available to tutor in a variety of math subjects as well as standardized test prep (see list below).

I have more than 10 years of teaching experience, ranging from a volunteer teacher at the Salvation Army, SCORE! coach, SAT tutor at AIM Academy, and private tutoring with middle school to adult students.

Math has always been my passion, and I tailor my teaching methods to best match each individual student....

Hi, my name is Wesley. Having attended both Stuyvesant High School and MIT, I am available to tutor in a variety of math subjects as well as standardized test prep (see list below).

I have more than 10 years of teaching experience, ranging from a volunteer teacher at the Salvation Army, SCORE! coach, SAT tutor at AIM Academy, and private tutoring with middle school to adult students.

Math has always been my passion, and I tailor my teaching methods to best match each individual student. Most importantly, I will teach a student how to attack the problem and how to think of the solution. Study guides and practice tests in books do not always pinpoint the issue. I will teach you how to approach problems, techniques, timing and approaches that cannot be found in any one single study guide but rather a compilation of years of experience and expertise.

Perhaps what makes me different from other teachers with higher degrees is my ability to relate to students and engage them as a supportive mentor in addition to helping them grasp the material. In fact, some of my students have served in internships and fellowships at non-profit organizations where I work as the Operations Director.

I have taken the Regents with the following grades during high school: Chemistry - 95 Physics - 98 Biology - 96 Trigonometry, Geometry, Algebra - 98, 97, 98 US History - 100 English - 93 Though I am most comfortable with Math, I am fully confident in my ability to teach any or all of these Regent exams. In addition, I am experienced with the Regents testing format. Some subjects like US History have questions that are primarily reading comprehension based and do not actually require knowledge of historical events. I believe the format of the Regents is less rigorous than other standardized testing and thus there are more testing taking techniques that can be used.

Excellent SAT and GRE tutor!

I hired Wesley in 2009 to help my daughter prepare for the SAT and we couldn't have been happier with the results. When Wesley started tutoring my daughter, her score was in the mid 1700s, and after weekly sessions with Wesley, she got a 2130. It was a great improvement thanks to Wesley's personalized tutoring sessions. Wesley was professional, patient and punctual. He customized each lesson to suit my daughter's weaknesses and motivated her to spend extra time preparing for the SAT. At the end, my daughter was delighted with Wesley for tutoring her. My daughter used Wesley to tutor her for the GRE last summer. Wesley helped my daughter raised her quant scores by 11 points. She ended up being accepted at the program she wanted.
