I am an inquisitive student of the seemingly disparate disciplines of mathematics and music. I am currently a Pure Mathematics PhD student at the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan. I also have my BM from the Crane Institute for Music Business in Music Business with a specialization in double bass and my MA in Pure Mathematics from SUNY Potsdam.

I most enjoy the process of developing a student's understanding from the foundations. All too often, teachers of math are not familiar with the foundations of what they teach and cannot discuss the motivation behind the definitions and facts that students are required to learn and understand. This is unfortunate. I have an exceptional understanding of how and why math concepts "work" and am excited to share this with students.

For my graduate study, I specialized in algebraic geometry. I have taken Calculus I, II, III, Linear Algebra I, II, Set Theory and Logic, Theory of Sets (graduate), Modern Algebra I, II, Abstract Algebra I, II (graduate), Advanced Calculus I, II, Real Analysis I, II (graduate), Complex Analysis I (graduate), and have tutored Probability and Statistics. I have also taken a sequence of business courses for my Music Business degree, including Micro/Macroeconomics, Accounting, Marketing, and Management. I can tutor/teach any form of math you need me to tutor/teach, basically!

I am a young, patient and passionate tutor with an interdisciplinary background. My musical and business backgrounds allow me to speak articulately and passionately about math with students who may not find math so fascinating or understandable. I have myriad examples of real-world applications in mind when I discuss math with students, especially since I have been involved in research projects regarding the application of math to quantum computing and am an amateur app developer - fascinating stuff!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

My passion for mathematics motivates students! A recent graduate of the renowned BA/MA Mathematics program at SUNY Potsdam has instilled in me a great love for mathematics, and I have no difficulty motivating students to feel the same. I have extensive tutoring experience for someone as young and lively as myself, and have tutored in one-on-one settings privately and in academia for four years. I also received my BM in Music Business from The Crane School of Music, where I studied the upright bass. My musical background and experience with a discipline so different from very technical mathematics allows me to humanize math for students. I also have research experience that exemplifies what it is that you can do with a mathematics education. I find that students want to know why they should study math, and I can provide many examples from my own personal experiences. (including quantum computing!)
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Intelligent, Understanding and Patient,

James is a wonderful tutor. I am enrolled in an online calculus class and James has been very helpful. We meet every week for hours and he goes over all the material, explaining each concept and breaking it down into simpler terms. He's always accommodating with meetings and makes himself available for as long as you need. Since its an online class, James is not only just my tutor but also like a professor teaching me each lesson. He's very intelligent and also patient when I do not understand a rule or concept. I am very glad I found James and I plan on meeting with many more times for tutoring sessions. I recommend him for anyone taking a difficult math class. He's the best!

Thank you, Elizabeth!

Knowledgeable and Collaborative Tutor

James and I worked on a relatively complex concept within circuit logic that's not widely taught and, despite the concept being mostly new to both of us, James was extremely helpful in setting up the problem and talking through it in a way that resulted in solidifying my understanding and helping me come up with my own solution. James was great to talk to, was patient, and thoughtful in setting up the bounds of the problem that enabled us to work through it together. I'll definitely be reaching out again the next time I'm in need of a good computer science tutor.

Knowledgeable, patient and kind

James helped me with my trigonometry homework. He was thorough, patient and very kind. He arrived on time and was very helpful. Sometimes in trying to explain a topic he reviewed things I knew already but that is probably just part of the process. Thank you James for your help.
