Hello! My name is Naomi and I graduated Cum Laude with a BA in mathematics from the University at Buffalo. I made Dean's list for 3 semesters and took Honors Calculus 3. I earned a 180-hour TEFL Level 5 certificate and teach English to non-native speakers online, which helps with the SAT reading/writing section. For two years at the UB math tutoring center, I helped hundreds of students in algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus strengthen their skills, build confidence, and raise their test scores.
At UB, I noticed that my brightest students weren’t always the top scorers. They worked harder, not smarter. They studied everything instead of focusing on their weak spots. When I helped these students with practice tests and personalized study plans, most of them felt more confident and scored much higher. Even after these improvements, some still panicked on the test and lost points. With timed practice tests, pacing strategies, and breathing exercises, their confidence grew—test day was their day to shine. The same issues apply to the SAT: without planning, students waste time, and without coaching, stress lowers scores. As a tutor, I build personalized planning and confidence-building into every step of my practice. My guided problem-solving approach has students walk me through each step, correcting themselves before I step in. Though demanding, this approach builds confidence and improves scores.
In my experience as a tutor, the most important step in helping a student is understanding their needs. I start with a diagnostic SAT section and a family consultation to understand the student’s needs and goals. Based on this assessment and consultation, I give targeted lessons and homework every week. I assign weekly assessments and keep an error log with notes to track progress and adjust the plan. These assessments keep parents updated and help the student gain confidence as they see their progress.
Together, we can create a plan that improves scores and reduces stress. Message me or book a lesson to begin!
