I am a PhD student at SUNY Buffalo with a passion for teaching Math, Science, and Computer Science to those who may be struggling. I believe in not only addressing the subject matter, but also teaching the logical skills needed to learn math and science related topics. I am a PhD student at SUNY Buffalo with a passion for teaching Math, Science, and Computer Science to those who may be struggling. I believe in not only addressing the subject matter, but also teaching the logical skills needed to learn math and science related topics. If a student can see the underlying logic in a problem, they have a much easier time learning and will be ready for future problems. In addition, learning these skills can help students in other subjects that may come up in the future.

I have spent the last eight years teaching children and adults from 7 to 55. The subjects I've taught to them have ranged from Robotics to Geometry to Programming to building a computer from scratch. I prefer to teach one-on-one with a student, as this is truly the best way to adapt a lesson to a student, but I have taught high school students in groups up to 17. I aim to personalize lessons to each student's needs, drawing visuals when needed or simplifying advanced concepts into layman's terms.

My goal in teaching is to give kids the ability to be self-sufficient. Many kids lack the self-confidence needed in order to succeed in school subjects. I would like to impart these things upon each of my students, so that when they see a new problem that they don't know how to solve, they think through it rather than giving up or relying on others for the solution.

I am a Computer Science student who has worked on professional projects in Python, Java, C, C++, and I have spent the last eight years professionally tutoring students in Java, C# with Unity, Visual Basic, Gamemaker, and Python. In addition, I have received awards from programming competitions around the area.

Get in touch with me for passionate lessons that enhance your learning and teach you new skills to further your academic endeavors.

Computer Gaming

I have been teaching Unity in a professional setting for the past 1.5 years. I have designed easy to follow curriculum for kids to follow that allows for easy customization, that way each child has something of their own. I also enjoy taking their favorite games and breaking down or recreating the mechanics to show them how simple it can be.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I have worked for the past three years teaching kids the basics of Computer Science from variables to A* in a multitude of languages including Java and Python. I am pursuing a Computer Engineering degree, which has only a few classes different than a Computer Science degree. My teaching style focuses around helping students build the base for a project, then letting them use previous knowledge to make changes to the project, giving each student something unique to share.
Python

Python

At Rice, the first year of programming classes are done in Python. We develop multiple applications that measure distance (A*), predict the stock market (Markov Chains), maximize parsimony of a phylogenetic tree (Fitch's Algorithm), and label parts of speech of a block of text (Markov Chains). These projects utilize many low level structures (Stacks, Queues, Trees) and advanced techniques (Recursion, Machine Learning, Dynamic Programming). Professionally, I have used Python to create a 2D world in Minecraft from a map provided by a museum for an exhibit.

Excellent, patient, great instructor

Mason was fantastic in helping to break down Python coding on a simple level. He will be my go to in the future as I hopefully hone my skills in this area. You won’t be disappointed if you work with Mason.

thank you!!

You are a life saver! Thank you for quickly assessing what needed to be taught, and working with my son in his programming class!

Knows his stuff and explains College Computer Science brilliantly.

Algorithms class. Mason was the first tutor for me to really understand the CLRS book and be able to help me with my problems, especially induction/substitution for proofs of algorithm time complexity analysis, other tutors on Wyzant in this domain of algorithms had far inferior knowledge and understanding of the content compared to Mason. I would recommend Mason to any undergraduate taking an Algorithms class or any Computer Science class.

Good and patient instructor

On very short notice Mason helped my daughter with a high school computer science homework assignment in Gamemaker. She thought he was great and would like to work with him again.

Great for new programmers

Mason was able to break down what was happening and explain it in terms that’s people who are new to programming would understand. He’s very helpful and will take his time to make sure you understand why something is happening.

Patient and knowledgeable

Mason was excellent and went over triangles with me and helped with my geometry review worksheet. He stayed longer making sure that I understood the concepts and I am very appreciative of that.

He knows what he's doing, and my son loves his teaching and so do I.

He thought math, and he works well with my Son, who is never on time or ready for anything. Mason is reliable response is quicker, his schedule works well with my work schedule. I think the most important aspect of his assignment with us communication even though math tutoring is why we decide to meet.
