I have been tutoring online for about 2 years. My students vary by age and needs. Currently, I am working with students in grades 3-9, as well as acting as a writing coach to high school, college, and grad school students.

I offer a variety of remote tutoring, coaching, and enrichment services and programs:
* Tutoring and/or homework help in reading, writing, grammar, spelling, math, and social studies/history.
* Language arts enrichment, including genre-based writing and guided literature studies.
* Writing and editing skills coaching.
* Executive function and study skills coaching.
* Test prep (ERB, ISEE, SSAT, and others).

I also have my certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, with a specialty certificate in teaching Business English.

I create customized plans. Although we meet remotely, I bring enthusiasm, encouragement, and humor to every session.

I have a Yale Law School JD and a degree in Communications from Boston University. I am a competitive crossword puzzler, an accomplished writer, and a crack editor.

I look forward to hearing from you. I'm happy to answer any questions you have so you can determine whether I am the right fit for your needs.

Approved Subjects

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught for 20 years in one of the top tier private schools in NYC. I primarily taught 3rd and 4th grades, but have some experience in 2nd grade as well. I taught the following subjects: math, reading, writing (including writing workshop, grammar, spelling), and social studies.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have taught elementary level math as a classroom teacher for 20 years and as a tutor for the past year. In addition, I helped 5th and 6th graders with their math assignments after school for 3 years. I have worked with TERC Investigations and Singapore Math, and I have some familiarity with Everyday Math as well.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification with a specialty in Business English. I work primarily with adults on their speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills.
Grammar

Grammar

I have a strong understanding of sentence structure and the rules of grammar. I have experience as a proofreader. I have taught grammar to 3rd and 4th graders, and tutored 5th and 6th graders in this subject. I enjoy sharing my grammar knowledge with students!
Reading

Reading

I taught reading for 20 years (grades 3 and 4). I currently tutor several students in grades 4-9 in the area of reading. Due to my experience in upper elementary and middle school grades, I primarily teach reading comprehension and fluency, rather than the mechanics of reading. Vocabulary development and how to infer word meaning from context are often an important component, as well as such skills as: annotating, summarizing, sequencing, main idea, themes, literary elements, making connections, inferring, and synthesizing.
Writing

Writing

I taught writing in a NYC private school for 20 years. Now, my writing students range in age from 8 to 22. I can help you to organize and develop your ideas and to express those ideas clearly, succinctly, and memorably. I also teach editing and proofreading skills that you can apply on future writing projects.
