About Lauren

Got glint? Glint is passion. It is the spark that sets things in motion. But how do you keep the fire going? As the artistic director of Red Garnet Theater Company, a performer, a designer, a playwright, a tutor by day and a producing artist by night, teaching is my glint.

As an educator, I care about what sparks my students to lean forward. I have three years of experience teaching Math, English, SAT/ACT & Regents prep as well as two years of experience with ELA/ISEE prep for 4th and 5th grade Reading/Math. After graduating from Brown University in 2012, I joined the "The Ivy Team" and dedicated my first year to learning how to serve as a mentor for those bridging the gaps between elementary school and college. I think what separates tutors from teachers in the classroom setting is individual attention. I always enjoy demystifying the enigma of standardized tests and school work because I feel it's important for children and teens to believe they have agency over their education.

As a rule, I find that play is the thing. I understand that being a student is a lot like being an artist in that it's a juggling act. And so I think it's important to find ways for students to get excited about learning things like quadratic formula, while implementing efficient study habits and skills to help keep their eye on the prize...the glint!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Marketing

I am a theater professional. I work in an industry where 80% of one's success depends on how well he/she can manipulate social media. Based on my experience with marketing my first show, Broken Homes, I know how to help businesses track buying trends and interest news bloggers to advertise and review product information.

I was a volunteer for Literacy KC (2007-2010), and an English tutor for several Test Centers in Brooklyn (2014-2017).
