About Alexander

Bio

I'm a Stanford University alum living in Manhattan. I tutor in a variety of subject areas, including test prep, math, science, and music. I especially enjoy helping students with their writing. Whether it's creative writing, a college essay, or a book report, I like engaging with my students' work and helping them use language powerfully. Test prep work is also gratifying to me, especially when I can help students score higher and gain confidence in their test-taking abilities.

At Stanford, I was a teaching assistant for introductory and advanced classes. I taught class and section, assigned and graded homework, came up with original coursework, and held office hours.

I am currently tutoring all over Manhattan, with test prep being my specialty. I am working working with students on tests including the SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE and ERB CTP. My students range from elementary school to high school students. I can help with homework and test prep to make sure my students have a well-rounded understanding of the fundamentals of each subject.

Good teaching is about inspiration. My job is to inspire the students I work with to really care about their studies, and to realize how meaningful their work can be for themselves. I hold my students to a very high standard, and in doing so, show them that they are capable of much more than they thought. They always end up inspiring me too with how hard they work and how much they accomplish during our time together.

I believe in a hands-on approach to math. I make sure my students understand each concept and equation before moving on. I help them learn how to practice their skills to cement each concept into long-term memory.

Feel free to get in touch with any questions. I look forward to working together!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

We went over the rules of part writing and different types of chords. He explained the topics thoroughly and was very knowledgeable on the subject as well.

Exactly what we were looking/hoping for!

Our son is in 5th grade and is taking the ISEE test in a couple months. Alexander immediately connected with our son, and had him engaged, excited and motivated within 10 minutes. Alexander is authentic, down-to-earth and skilled at assessing and teaching across all subject areas and testing strategies. So happy we found him.
