I have a PhD. in organic chemistry and I am state-certified teacher. I have taught recitation and lab classes in general chemistry as well as organic chemistry at New York University and York College. I have times in the evenings and weekends to tutor in the New York City area. I have tutored students in basic reading and writing as well as basic math like algebra. I have experience tutoring high school and college students so they are who I plan to tutor. I have worked for several tutoring agencies in the past with being paid from the No Child Left Behind program as well as private funds. I like to find out what a student knows first with a diagnostic test before doing further tutoring. That helps to let us know how many tutoring hours will be needed and the frequency for tutoring needed. I like to be kept up to date as to what subjects the student is currently learning in class and then I can tailor my lessons to the student's needs. This avoids teaching subjects too soon when the student is struggling with an earlier subject. At the end of the tutoring sessions, a test is needed that I will make challenging enough so that the upcoming tests for the student in class will be not very difficult.

Knowledgeable tutor

Samuel helped me look at the mass spectrum to determine unknown structures. This helped make sure I was on the right track when working on problems. This helped build confidence after working through spectroscopy problems.

Patient & Offered Good Explanations

Samuel is the first tutor that I have tried on Wyzant and the first tutor I have tried since high school. He is helping me with General Chemistry which is a weakness of mine. He offers good explanations and is patient, but makes sure that you are grasping the concepts by making you do practice problems on your own after we review similar questions. Thanks. I look forward to schedule another session.

Very knowledgeable.

I was stuck on my lesson for organic chemistry. I was stuck on addition reactions of Alkenes, principals of stereochemistry and cyclic compounds. Samuel made it easy for me to understand those chapters.

Knowledgeable, patient, interactive and result oriented

My son learned so much from Samuel’s technique of teaching. The lesson was very interactive and he does explain well to my son’s level of understanding. Samuel made sure that my son understood the lesson and will benefit from it.

Good Teacher

Sam was very patient and explained the topics very throughly. My daughter liked him. It is clear that he knows his stuff and is very intelligent.

excellent tutor

Samuel was really able to break the lesson down for my daughter. She finally understood concepts she had been lost on before. She went to school with more confidence today

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

I started using Samuel as a Common Core Algebra I tutor a little more than a month ago. During this time he has helped my son understand linear functions, whiskers and box plotting, histograms, as well as other math functions. This has been accomplished by taking the time to explain concepts in a clear manner and having the patience to correct misunderstandings my son has. As a result my son has shown a significant improvement on his math exams.
