Hello! My name is Nate. I graduated summa cum laude from SUNY Stony Brook with a Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering, and from the University of Pittsburgh with a Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics.
Both of my degrees have developed my knowledge in many areas including biology, physics, math, and engineering topics. My tutoring is specialized in biomechanics and statics. I have one year of experience tutoring college-level molecular biology at Stony Brook’s tutoring center, two years of experience as an undergraduate engineering design teaching assistant, and a semester as graduate biomechanics teaching assistant. These positions taught me how to teach class material, work with students, and help them achieve their learning goals. Beyond the classroom, I love to ski and have spent three winters teaching kids ski lessons.
I like to focus on the students’ mental organization of concepts, allowing them to ask questions to clarify topics and asking them questions in return to probe their understanding. I often find that struggling students have much of the information they need in their heads, they only need help organizing that info in a way that helps them see the bigger picture. As they build connections, they will climb the ladder from simply remembering facts and equations to being able to evaluate problems and create their own solutions.
If you are an engineering or P&O student looking for help with biomechanics or statics classes, please reach out to me!
