The job of a tutor is not simply to present the material; rather it is to ensure that the pupil understands and can apply the lesson learned. This requires that the tutor be able to match his method of teaching and explanation to match the individual student's needs. I'm thrilled to say that Ira was able to do this with great skill. Though our daughter had fairly good mastery of many concepts on the SAT Math, she was often missing the "tricks." Ira was able to cut through her basic level of understanding and bring her to the next level. After she completed her first practice test, Ira confidently predicted that he could likely get her score to a 700. This is exactly what she scored on her first attempt. With regard to his work, Ira has been very professional and understands what it means to provide good service. He is extremely prompt at returning calls, emails or texts. We have never had an issue scheduling him, as he was always able to accommodate us. We never felt as if our daughter was rushed; he always took more time than the actual hour allotted and would ensure that she understood what was covered during each session. Ira often used humor to liven up what could otherwise be a tedious process; our daughter actually ENJOYS the sessions with him. At the same time, he could be quite serious, often unrelenting when trying to ensure that a concept was definitely grasped. We were so happy with him that we have continued to use his services as a math tutor for our daughter in Pre-Calc, as well as with our younger daughter in algebra. We would not hesitate to recommend him for any math tutoring. He is an excellent tutor. We are so happy we found him.

Praxis 5165..FINALLY Passed After 8 Attempts!

I struggled with this test for years and the hardest part? Getting the score report only for it to tell me how many questions I got right out of the total number of questions asked on the exam for each category. It was impossible to know exactly where I was going wrong or which concepts I wasn’t fully grasping. I tried practice exams, individualized tutoring courses, and Amazon prep books, but nothing worked until I found Ira. From the very first tutoring session, I was nervous and unsure, already having zero confidence after so many failed attempts. Shortly after we started our first session, he quickly nicknamed me “Ms. Quicksand” because I would answer questions so fast, many times before he even finished asking the question, and completely missing what his questions actually were! I kept “falling into the quicksand,” as he would say, answering based on what I thought the question was instead of what was actually was being asked. That moment alone started changing everything for me. Ira teaches math differently than anyone else. High school teachers and college professors want you to memorize and replicate, but Ira helps you ACTUALLY understand and see how things connect. I would often have an “oh duh!” moment once he provided an analogy or broke things down into simpler terms. If I didn't know how to approach a problem he would help me simplify it then build it back up to apply to any type of question. His analogies, stories, and corny jokes made tricky concepts stick. He’ll ask, “How bad do you want this? Okay, then you need to put in the WORK!” and he means it. He wants you to succeed! He is tough, but he cares! He will push you! There were MANY times I wanted to give up after failing this test multiple times, but I kept going and working with Ira made all the difference in the world. I have HORRIBLE test anxiety and had zero confidence going into these exams after failing seven times, but Ira boosted my confidence. He believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. On my eighth attempt on this exam and after working with Ira…I passed. After completing the exam and seeing the PASSING score, I wasn’t sure whether to scream HALLELUJAH or cry (it ended up being a mixture of both!). This weight had been on my shoulders for years and now I can finally BREATHEEEE! Take my word for it, schedule the tutoring session! Ira will guide you to meet your goals! He is tough but truly cares and you need to be willing to put in the work. I tried books, online programs, and practice tests on my own. NOTHING worked until I worked with Ira. He made me fully believe in my abilities and it’s truly bittersweet because now I have this weight off my shoulders but I will greatly miss the tutoring sessions each week with him! He is the best! Thank you for everything Ira!!! :)

Mr. Ira is a great tutor. He’s funny, understanding, and he encouraged me to realize my mistakes. Learning geometry as a 10th grader is difficult, but he makes it easier. My favorite part of being in tutoring with Mr.Ira is being sarcastic about whether my answer is correct or incorrect. He makes learning fun.
