Hi, I'm Daniel! I'm a current Master's student in Biomedical Informatics with Bachelor's degree from New York University in Computer & Data Science and a Minor in Chemistry from completing the prehealth track. While preparing for almost any exam, I've always found it helpful to have someone closer to my own age with whom I could work through problems and discuss solutions. By working with other students who are taking the same classes that I've once gone through, I feel I can offer a more effective learning experience by being able to better relate to my students' struggles, as I have experienced them myself. My teaching style is about guiding my students' thought processes so that they reach the answers to their problems on their own, while also directing them to helpful resources for self-learning outside our sessions.

In high school, I took various AP exams, including AP Chemistry, AP Comp Sci A, and AP Physics 1, and AP French, scoring 5 on each one. In college, I've completed my prehealth requirements up to Biochem I and have taken the MCAT scoring in the 92nd percentile in the chemistry/physics section. I've also taken advanced programming classes in machine learning and artificial intelligence using Python and SQL.

My goal is to provide a more student-to-student level of tutoring. As a student myself, I understand the stress and time struggles that many students may face. I strive to help mitigate some of these struggles and remain flexible to work during times that are convenient to my students. If interested, just let me know, and I'll be happy to answer any additional questions you may have!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I've taken all honors or advanced level math classes all throughout high school and have completed math courses up to Calculus II in college (as my degree requires). I've received no lower than a B in any of these courses. Additionally, I have successfully completed a heavily math-based chemistry class which applies many concepts from algebra. The class required a strong grasp of mathematics to apply these algebraic concepts properly.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Clear, patient, and super accommodating

Daniel was terrific: punctual, warm, and lovely to work with. Our daughter appreciated his thorough/patient approach working through 10th grade geometry and chemistry and ended up spending four (!) solid hours with him. She looks forward to reconnecting with him as she continues preparing for final exams. Recommended.

Very thorough and communication skills were excellent

Daniel D. did an excellent job engaging my high schooler during her first AP Chemistry class. He made sure she understood the basics and asked appropriate questions to make her feel comfortable with each step. When he reviewed the assignment, she had difficulty with, he broke it down for her and gave her the opportunity to see the solution. Communication skills in this virtual style of learning are so important to make the student feel comfortable. His use of the white board and his neat representation of the problems on the board (as well as his color coding) made it very easy for her to follow along. Will definitely be using him again.

Verbal Explanation Didn't Help Much For a Subject Like Chemistry

I left my tutoring session feeling unsatisfied, and didn't feel like I got the help for what I needed. After Daniel joining the lesson a little late, I asked for help balancing equations, and Daniel asked if I had any equations to balance, so I brought out my homework which is also online. After him explaining how I would transfer charges to certain pieces of the equation to get the Net Ionic equation and I still didn't understand the process, I asked him if I could write it down on the page of Wyzant because I'm a visual learner so hopefully writing it out could help. While I was writing the equation I noticed Daniel check his phone. After him explaining the equation again verbally, even though I expressed my request for any sort of a visual explanation, I decided to move onto another question, which was a repeated pattern throughout the session. Daniel had good explanations for the reactions my homework covered, but if mainly verbal explanation is not how you learn like me, especially in something as visual as a subject like chemistry, I would seek a more visually explanatory instructor.
