I am a science, math, test preparation, and writing instructor with almost 20 years of experience. I have helped students from nearly every imaginable academic background achieve success in the subjects I tutor. Unlike other people who perform well on standardized tests, I can confidently and accurately explain the step-by-step approach that I took to arrive at the correct answer. The reason for my adeptness is that I have spent years studying standardized tests so that I could get inside the minds of the people who actually write them.
My teaching approach is tailored to the student. If I see that a student is struggling in an area because of a lack of a conceptual understanding, I will deliver a full lecture on the topic so that any confusions are eliminated. With every problem, I then explain the step-by-step procedure and the difference in the approaches used for a certain type of problem compared to other problems of that type. I also learned through my interactions with clients that many times they do not feel comfortable saying that they do not understand an explanation, so I often ask them to explain it back to me. I will omit this step if a client makes the request to save time. For visual learners, I can make use of charts, diagrams, tables, and images and videos from the internet.

As for my educational background, I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Binghamton University, and I am currently working on a second degree in Mechanical Engineering at NJIT. I am not the type of person who never looks at the subject matter of a class that I had taken ever again after the completion of the class. In fact, I will continue studying a subject even if I receive an A in it so that I will attain a mastery of it. This is a quality that has made me such an effective tutor over the years. I have tutored the ACT for over 15 years. In that time I have developed a mastery of the test that I can readily communicate to my students. For the English portion of the ACT, I will thoroughly cover all of the subject matter in detail and I will teach the strategies for effective time management. My students are consistently amazed by what they learn in the sessions. I bring a level of excitement that is absolutely contagious, so even if you dread standardized tests, you will feel that the sessions are far more interesting than you would otherwise expect.

In the tutoring sessions, we will cover core math concepts that are regularly tested on the test, applicable strategies for various question types, and an enormous number of practice problems from reputable ACT test materials.

I have been tutoring and teaching the ACT Reading for over 15 years. Through my experience working with the Reading sections on standardized tests, I have developed strategies for excelling on them built on an understanding of the test-makers themselves. The people who write the test expect you to think like them when taking the ACT Reading. With my experience, I help my students do exactly that. Once they are able to think through the answers to their questions in the logical manner expected by the test-makers, they are able to develop their confidence on the test and achieve much higher scores.

I have been tutoring all parts of the ACT, including the ACT Science, for over 15 years. Over that time period, I have written a large volume of lesson documents that address scientific thinking and its application to the ACT Science as well as lessons that target broad categories of questions. During the sessions, I guide my students to parse the relevant scientific information in the ACT Science passages and to develop effective strategies for analyzing passage information to arrive at the correct answer. I have been tutoring algebra at the high school and college level since 2005. Since I began, I have been helping countless students improve their performance in this challenging subject. In addition to tutoring the subject itself on a regular basis, I also have to use it in my engineering classes and I employ it in the SAT math classes that I teach as well. I began my tutoring at Kean University in 2005 where I worked with students from diverse backgrounds improve their performance in college math. I then worked with countless middle school and high school students as well. As an SAT and ACT math tutor, I regularly have to cover algebra topics. Finally, as a person who has completed a significant quantity of mechanical engineering coursework, mastery of algebra is a prerequisite for success in those classes.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in cell and molecular biology from SUNY Binghamton in 2005. I have also completed some graduate level coursework in the subject. I have been tutoring biology since 2005, helping students at both the high school level and college level excel in the subject. When preparing students for the MCAT, the PCAT, and the DAT, I have delivered quality instruction to help them with the most challenging biology questions on these tests.

I took AP BC Calculus in high school and scored a 5 on the exam. I have tutored calculus for almost 20 years starting with Kean University students in 2005. I have helped both high school and college students master this challenging subject. As part of my mechanical engineering coursework, I also had to take multivariable calculus and differential equations. I have all the experience you would want in a tutor of this subject.

I took 1 year of General Chemistry and 1 year of Organic Chemistry in college as well as a course in Organic Chemistry lab. I have tutored both general chemistry and organic chemistry since 2005 and these are two subjects I work with on a regular basis.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

When I work with calculus students, I often joke that as you work through a calculus problem, the calculus problem becomes an algebra problem, and then that algebra problem becomes an elementary math problem. So, even as tutor college students in the complex math they have to face, I still have to call on my knowledge of elementary school math. Over the course of the 20 years that I have spent tutoring, I have also helped elementary school students in the math they are doing, so it is fresh in my mind, making for a smooth tutoring session with no hitches.
Genetics

I earned my degree in biology from Binghamton University in 2005. My concentration was the cell and molecular biology track. Genetics, especially on the molecular level, was a consistent theme throughout my degree program. In addition to the theory and knowledge taught in the classroom, I also performed experiments in gene expression. After graduation, I tutored students in genetics at Kean University as part of my service as an Academic Specialist. I continued my studies in Cell and Molecular Biology when I attended graduate school in Rutgers from 2007 to 2008, where my knowledge of genetics was further enhanced. Genetics is not an easy subject, but I can comfortably communicate even the most challenging concepts.

I have been tutoring high school and middle school geometry since 2009. I can cover middle school geometry, high school geometry, honors geometry, and trigonometry. Advanced geometric concepts also come into play in precalculus and calculus, two subjects I am extremely proficient in. During that time, I have authored probably hundreds of pages worth of lesson documents as I provide lectures during the tutoring and answer my students' burning questions. After completing a year of physics for my biology degree, I took coursework in mechanical engineering that incorporated physics concepts on an advanced level. In my quest for teacher certification, I took and achieved a passing score on the following Praxis exams: Biology, Math II, General Science, and Physics. A certificate of recognition is given to those test takers who score in the top 15%. I received this certificate for Biology, Math II, and General Science. In the General Science Praxis, which covers biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science, I scored a 197 out of 200. As a tutor at Kean University, I helped many students prepare for this test. Very few people would be willing to put themselves through the grueling tests that I went through, but I would want all of my clients to trust me as their instructor.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have tutored precalculus for almost 20 years at the high school and college level. During that time, I prepared probably hundreds of pages of lesson documents that detail the various concepts covered in precalculus and the problem-solving methods for different problems. I have helped countless struggling students excel in this challenging subject. Finally, precalculus wasn't just a preliminary to calculus for me, I also utilized its concepts in my mechanical engineering coursework.

Best Tutor Ever!!!

I'm reviewing for the Praxis Exam for General Science. He taught me how to methodically work my way through each practice problem to come to the correct answer. When I made silly mistakes, he didn't make me feel bad, but commended me on my efforts and patiently helped to explain why my thinking was incorrect. After he showed me where I was wrong, he helped me to arrive at the correct answer. This guy really knows what he's doing and he makes you feel like he really cares and wants you to succeed. I would recommend him to anyone!

Lohith is good at teaching concepts and is very patient. He is always on time for the class and provides a daily summary of what he teaches in each lesson at the end of each session. He reviewed modules in the Princeton Review for Math test, The topics he covered in math math included systems of equations with infinitely many solutions, equivalent expressions, constructing line equations from a function table, missing data set values with given conditions, the trial-and-error approach for integer problems, variable rate problems, and similar triangles important geometric principles for proving triangle similarity.
