As an English major with a Linguistics Minor, and an experienced ESL tutor, I feel that I can help any student with their writing, grammar and speaking skills. Add to this my experience as an actress on stage and work with dialects, you will have a tutor who has a good command of the English language. I have also been a copy editor for a publisher, in the medical books department, working with authors from various countries, and I have worked on a publication copy editing manuscripts from potters around the world. Spelling, grammar and good speaking skills are my strength. I have also worked as a tutor for ESL students in elementary, middle and high school classes, and volunteered years ago in Boston, working with students who wished to have better English speaking and reading skills. In addition, I have taught in Hebrew school and speak some Modern Hebrew. I have worked as a librarian in school libraries, and have taught Music appreciation courses. I play piano and can teach voice and acting techniques.

Donna and I went over my rather unusual "project," which involved quite a bit of research on her part. I am delighted with the results! I will certainly go to her again with other such requests. I had searched for some time for a person who could (and would) do the work involved and then: Donna M G appeared and has succeeded. Thanks to all concerned.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught English as a Second Language to adults in the International School in Boston, MA (as a volunteer), and to students in elementary, junior and senior high schools (as a paid professional). I have also been a copyeditor with Little, Brown and Company in Boston, MA and a freelance copyeditor, proofreader, and a librarian in an elementary and high school library system.
My expertise, I believe, lies in a thorough knowledge of the English language, gained throughout my life as an avid reader, an excellent speller, and an English major in college, with a Linguistics minor I have worked with students from various Asian countries, from Greece, Israel and Latin America. I enjoy learning from my students, as they learn from me.
I have tutored ESL to students from Israel, Greece, Korea, and Nicaragua. I have taken some ESL workshops at Notre Dame College, but my college degree is in English, with a minor in Linguistics. I also did some English tutoring with a Chinese student at the International Center in Boston, MA.
I have been singing since I was 8 years old, as a soloist, in choirs, and as a Cantorial Soloist in Temples and liturgical soloist in churches. I am familiar with music from the 40s on, have done broadway showtune road shows, and I perform in onstage musicals. I have toured with A CHRISTMAS CAROL in the Midwest, and have played roles such as Dolly in "Hello, Dolly"; Fraulein Schneider in "Cabaret" (for which I was awarded best supporting actress), the Mother Abbess in "Sound of Music"; Mother in "Meet Me in St. Louis"; and Mrs. Higgins in "My Fair Lady." I play piano (studied for 9 years) and founded a Jewish folk duo. I was once asked to lead a class in music appreciation, and I have coached voice.
I have studied Hebrew since I was 7 years old. I speak some Modern Hebrew, and I try to use it when I go to Israel every year. I have taken two Hebrew Ulpan classes (immersive Hebrew) at levels 3 and 5 at Hebrew College. As a Cantorial Soloist, I sing and chant Hebrew prayers, and I have taught young students Hebrew in a Hebrew School setting. I continue to perfect my reading skills as I go to services and use the prayer book.
I do knitting and very elementary crochet work. Can knit afghans, laprobes, scarves, hats, and dishcloths, in addition to slippers and occasionally mittens. Familiar with knit, purl, stockinette, popcorn stitches. Have also done some embroidery and needlepoint, along with rug projects. Have taught children and adults beginning knitting and easy stitch patterns.
I have played piano for many, many years. I took 9 years of piano lessons as a child, and two years of organ lessons. I have played for my own enjoyment, for some group songfests, and have done some accompanying for people I have coached in voice and for people auditioning for musical shows.
I worked with children in elementary school on reading and making their own books. I worked as a school librarian in an elementary and high school library (uncertified) and as a copyeditor and proofreader for medical books, numerology books, state reports, and a journal, as well as copyedited jacket copy for a publishing in Boston. I am an avid reader myself and have worked with my own children, and now my grandchildren on reading skills. I was a reader for English standardized testing in Dover, NH.
