Hi! I am Laura, an academic editor and Oxford comma aficionado! I have a B.A. in English Education and spent 13 years teaching AP and Honors English in a large urban school district, which is where my career as an academic editor began. My first big editing job - almost 20 years ago - was for one of the assistant principals at the high school where I was teaching. Soon, another followed, and another, and quite frankly, I was hooked! Eventually I went back to school, earning an M.Ed. in Exercise Science. I was able to combine my writing and editing with my new master’s degree as I took on the task of not only contributing to work in a health book, but also worked on editing others’ contributions and then editing subsequent books in the series.
As an academic editor, my focus is on assisting students who are pursuing their master’s and/or doctoral degrees. As an editor, my assistance could be during the entire writing process or as a final editor before publication; I’ve done both. I am well-versed in APA formatting, both APA 6 & APA 7, as well as with ProQuest submission requirements. While most of my editing work is academic in nature, I have plenty of experience with fiction, periodicals, resumes, websites, and everything in-between.
If I could offer one piece of advice for anyone working on a thesis or dissertation, it is that editing can make or break any piece of written work, which is why it's important to find the right editor to work with you. Whether you are looking for help through the entire writing process or during the final review, you’ve come to the right place. My goal is to do the very best work for you while being very efficient at it. I look forward to hearing from you!
