Hello. My name is Erica and I am 36 years old. I graduated with my BS in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Religion in 2017, from the University of Mount Olive. I am currently ending my 5th year as a middle school teacher. I teach math, science, and Bible. I have offered private tutoring after school, and through out the summer, for the past 4 years. I have lived in the New Bern area for most of my life.
I enjoy helping students reach their potential in a subject that, for most, is difficult to understand. A lot of the students I teach are athletes or musicians. I remind them that the first time they stepped on to a field or picked up an instrument they were not automatically the best on the team or the most skilled player. But, with hard work, dedication, and lots of practice they perfected their sport/skill. Math is not any different. To be better mathematicians it takes hard work, dedication, and practice, practice, practice! I am ready to roll up my sleeves and help you put in the work to do your best at math!
I think that being a good science student starts with having knowledge of your own learning style and then cultivating study skills to accommodate that. I am excited to help you learn how you learn best. Then, I can teach you how to practice study skills that match your style of learning. I know that once you understand your learning style you will be ready to explore God’s creation scientifically.
Bible is my absolute favorite class to teach. Nothing brings me more joy than presenting God’s truth to my students and helping them come to an understanding of His word.
My minor in college is in religion. The main focus was on Christianity, however, I also studied other religions such as but not limited to, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism.
