No matter your age or skill level, I can simplify complex math topics for you. I use the Socratic Method to get students to think and work independently. Besides math, I also specialize in improving students’ English grammar and language usage skills.

I also provide expert test prep. I reduce students’ test anxiety and teach them strategies to answer math problems without solving them and to answer vocabulary and verbal analogy questions when they don’t know the meanings of the words.

I tutor full-time, have a very flexible schedule, and respond promptly to all messages. I've helped over 200 students pass the Accuplacer, AFOQT, ALEKS, ASVAB, CLEP, HESI, OAR, PERT, Regents, TEAS, and TSI. Book a lesson with me today to reach your goals!

Accuplacer

Accuplacer

I help students to avoid taking remedial math and to test into advanced math like calculus. Most of them have needed fewer than 6 lessons. In June and August, two of my TSI students raised their scores from 930 to 976 and 941 to 965, respectively, after only 2 lessons each. In April, one of my students earned a 74 on the ALEKS after receiving only 1 hour of tutoring. Previously, I helped an Accuplacer student earn 285 and a PERT student earn 130.
AFOQT

AFOQT

I have helped over 120 AFOQT students meet or exceed the minimum Quantitative and Verbal scores. More than half of them failed to earn the minimums prior to our lessons. I use AFOQT-specific practice tests and problems so that you don't waste time reviewing items that won't be tested. You will learn how to minimize the time spent on each section and how to maximize your test scores. In the past month, my 2 most recent students went from failing to 49 and 48 Verbal and Quantitative scores, respectively. In October, one increased his prior Quantitative score from 5 to 55 after just 5 lessons. In August, one raised his by 41 points after 4 lessons. In March, one raised his from 1 to 78 after only 2 lessons. In May, one improved her Verbal score by 25 points after 6 lessons. I also tutor OAR math, and my most recent student improved his score from 45 to 51 after 5 lessons.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I patiently explain linear equations and inequalities, systems of equations, quadratic functions, and other algebra concepts in easily understandable terms. I also have helped Algebra 1 and College Algebra students navigate the Pearson and ALEKS learning modules. My students leave each lesson equipped with the tools and knowledge to succeed on their homework and test problems.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have a decade of experience helping students with Algebra 2 and College Algebra topics such as quadratic functions, polynomials, and more. I also have assisted students with navigating the Pearson and ALEKS learning modules. I sharpen their problem-solving skills to help them achieve mastery of homework and test problems.
ASVAB

ASVAB

The skill that separates me from other ASVAB tutors is that I can explain complex topics clearly and simply for even the most impenetrable students to understand. If you’ve been out of school for years, or if you’ve had lifelong struggles with math and English, I can strengthen your algebra, geometry, and vocabulary skills. I can show you shortcuts to overcome the lack of a calculator and share tips to break down the meanings of difficult words. These strategies will help you maximize your test scores. Most of my students need fewer than 6 lessons. Contact me if you want to increase your confidence and decrease your test anxiety.
Calculus

Calculus

I have spent numerous semesters as a Calculus 1 tutor in my college's math lab. I also have spent years as a private, 1:1 high school AP Calculus AB tutor. I teach students how to evaluate limits, derivatives, and integrals, but the most important thing I do is to help them understand the concepts behind each problem.
HESI (Nursing exam)

HESI (Nursing exam)

I have 25 years' combined experience in healthcare and academia. My students have not only passed the HESI A2, but excelled on it. Recently, one earned a 100% math score, another improved hers from 42% to 76%, and one earned a 94% vocabulary score. I will provide you with access to top study materials that mirror the actual exam.
IBEW/ Electrician

IBEW/ Electrician

I have over 8 years' math and verbal test prep experience. I am also a former college algebra instructor, so I am well-equipped to help you with IBEW Algebra and Functions questions. I can provide you with strategies to solve math problems without a calculator and to improve your reading comprehension skills.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I help prealgebra students build the foundational knowledge needed once they advance to algebra and higher-level math.I have more than 8 years' experience tutoring prealgebra students of all ages and skill levels. I regularly assist students with prealgebra concepts covered in homework problems and on tests and quizzes.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I patiently explain polynomial, rational, exponential, log, and trig functions and their transformations, plus other complex precalculus concepts, in easily understandable terms. I refresh precalculus students' Algebra 2 skills and help prepare them for calculus.
Regents

Regents

I am a former college algebra instructor, so I'm well-equipped to help students pass the Regents algebra exam. I use previous years' exams to help students prepare for the test. I teach test-taking strategies that will improve your time management and increase your test score. My most recent student earned an 82 after only 1 hour of tutoring.
SSAT

SSAT

I tutor the SSAT math and verbal sections. Every day, I provide test prep strategies to help students improve their quantitative, vocabulary, and verbal analogies skills. The time-saving strategies I teach to students have helped them to double and triple their prior scores.
TEAS

TEAS

I focus exclusively on the TEAS math and English sections. I use only the top study guides, and my students have not only passed the TEAS, but excelled on it. Recently, two of them earned perfect 100% math scores, and one earned an 89% English score.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I teach students about right-triangle trigonometry, the Unit Circle, periodic functions, the Laws of Sines and Cosines, and other trig concepts. Some Algebra 2 classes only briefly discuss these topics, but I provide students with a deeper understanding of function transformations, angle conversions, trig identities, and other trig topics.

Great Teacher

This is my first time utilizing a tutor and I wish I did for previous classes in my life. Michael is very good at explaining and has the work for you pre planned out so you don’t feel like your time is being wasted. I will continue working with him for some time and hopefully future sessions could be as helpful as this one.

Thank you, Michael. I believe in preparedness for every lesson that I conduct. It is the professional thing to do, and I have chosen this as my profession because I love to help students learn. Time is money, and I do not believe in wasting either one of them, especially when it is someone else's. It would be nice if everyone believed this. I also believe in explaining things as simply as possible. I do not feel the need to provide elaborate explanations when many topics can be summarized in a few words.

Very patient and Articulate

Mr. Michael - Is very patient and articulate as to how we can solve a variety of problems. He has been a big help in my short time with him and will definitely recommend him to other students that struggle with Math.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Michael helped me prepare for a calculus test and I felt so much more prepared after our session. He is excellent at explaining concepts and the notes he writes after the lesson are super helpful.

Thank you, Justin! I believe that it is good practice for tutors to clearly articulate what transpired and what was accomplished during a lesson.

Very Helpful and Patient!! Highly Recommend

I had a fantastic first experience with Michael as my tutor, and I can't recommend him enough. I was quite embarrassed to admit that I had forgotten a lot of math skills and had to relearn a significant portion of the material. However, Michael immediately reassured me that it's completely normal when you haven't used a skill in a while, which helped me stay focused. In just one session, I learned so much and regained confidence in the math skills covered in the first session. Michael explained short cuts and quicker methods for solving problems after going through the more traditional ways. He was incredibly patient, especially when I needed time to think, and he took the time to review problems I was unsure of. When I mentioned a concept I was struggling with, he quickly provided multiple ways to approach and solve the problem. I can’t wait for my next session! I highly recommend him as an AFOQT tutor. I know with more sessions I will be able to pass the AFOQT.

Tutor responded:

Thank you so much for this favorable review! I often tell students that math skills are like anything else. Use it or lose it. It's often not the case that students do not know how to perform math and arithmetic operations. It's usually a matter of them not using them in a while, so they have forgotten and need to refresh their skills. It's also true that not everyone learns the same way, and that is why I try to demonstrate multiple approaches to solving a math problem.

Great help with AFOQT prep

Michael was awesome. I am studying for the AFOQT and my weakness is in the Math areas. Michael sent me some practice questions and we worked through some of the problems I struggled with. He helped me with tips and refreshing my skill set. He also explained everything that made everything easier to understand and less intimidating. I highly recommend him. Will continue to get help from him up to my test date to be as sharp as I can in math.

Tutor responded:

Thanks, Nicholas! I am always happy to help anyone who is trying to reach their goals.

Smart and Helpful

Michael has a way with teaching! He explains it in a way that really makes you understand what you're learning. I have only had one session with him, and I definitely plan to schedule another with him. I also have the TEAs test coming up in a few months that I plan to have him help me with! If you need help with Math, Michale is your man!

Davin, 1 lesson with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thank you, Davin! I learned a long time ago that it is imperative that an instructor be able to explain concepts to students in language that they can understand. Unfortunately, some instructors try to explain the material like they are talking to their academic peers.

very patient and understanding

Awesome if I could give 100000 stars I would thank you for your professionalism transparency in everything you really helped me in so many ways

Robert, 6 lessons with Michael

Michael is very patient and easily explains concepts, he has a great layout for his tutoring sessions and is very helpful! He provides additional help whenever it’s needed.

Alexi, 6 lessons with Michael
Tutor responded:

Thank you, Alexi! When test prep students let me know what it is they would like to cover, it makes it much easier to develop an individualized lesson customized to their specific needs. I really appreciate you doing this.
