About Daniel

Hello. My name is Dan and I have lived in North Carolina for the past 14 years. I am certified by the state of New Jersey in the areas of elementary education and in special education. I taught two years in a computer lab in Paterson, New Jersey and one year as a third grade teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina as well as a lot of substitute teaching. For the past 12 years, I have been working in the information systems field for a large prestigious law firm. In this role, I get to help users with a variety of computer-related issues and train them on different software applications. I enjoy my varied day and being someone who is trusted and can be counted on to make a difference. Some of my interests include running, hiking, swimming, reading, watching classic movies and spending any kind of time with my family. I have two children and enjoy teaching them everything under the sun. One of my favorite things to do with them is read. I have a love of learning and look forward to sharing that with you and your student. Hello. My name is Dan and I have lived in North Carolina for the past 14 years. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Art History

I minored in art history at Rutgers College in New Brunswick, NJ. and continue to have a love of art history today. I am particularly interested in American art.

Elementary (K-6th)

I received my certifications in elementary education and teacher of the handicapped from the state of New Jersey in 1999. This allows me to teach elementary school and in all areas of special education. My background includes two years of teaching computers in the Paterson Public Schools and one year as a third grade teacher for a charter school in North Carolina. In all of my positions including substitute assignments, I have taught a diverse group of students. I am currently working in corporate world, but still use my teaching skills regularly with my two children and in a volunteer capacity.

Reading

Besides being college-educated and having teaching certifications in elementary education and special education, I just love to read. I have been reading my entire life and for the past thirteen years have read with my kids every day. I am well-versed in all the classics for both young and old and can bring a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity to any subject.

One of my favorite quotes is by Groucho Marx who said, "I find TV very educational. Every time someone switches it on I go into another room and read a good book." That is me.

Special Needs

Track & Field

I lettered for four years in both track and cross-country in high school and continue to run to this day. I have experience as an assistant track coach and love the idea of running. There is no more exciting sport.
