I'm a physics PhD candidate with over 10 years of experience tutoring and teaching physics, math, and programming. I love working through challenging concepts with students of different backgrounds. In some cases we can also work to overcome mental barriers and see how powerful physics and math can be!

I earned a BS and MS in physics (from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Washington, respectively) and am working toward a PhD in physics, doing computational biophysics research. I have served as head TA, earned a teaching award in introductory physics, and taught Physics I at Catawba Valley Community College.

I believe verbalizing your understanding and getting feedback is often more effective than passively listening. I encourage students to take the lead - to bring their own course materials or questions, explain the setup, follow through on their ideas, and try to notice when answers don't make sense. I fill in the gaps in knowledge, demonstrate problem setup and problem solving strategies, and share test taking tips based on course materials.

I majored in physics at Carnegie Mellon, and am a physics PhD candidate at the Univerisity of Washington. I'm also a community college Adjunct Physics Instructor. I've taught and tutored students in many levels of physics - from high school through graduate level courses. I love working through challenging concepts with students of different backgrounds. In some cases we can also work to overcome mental barriers and see how powerful physics and math can be! High School, AP, IB, Honors, Undergraduate Intro Physics: Topics usually include Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Waves & Optics, Modern Physics. [Note for Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics: I can help *if part of a physics course*, NOT if your course has an engineering course number.] Upper Level Undergraduate & Graduate Level Physics: I have served as TA or tutor for E&M, Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, and Statistical Mechanics courses. Please contact me with specific coursework you'd like to look over (including syllabus or textbook name and authors) so that I can see if I can help! Biophysics & Physical Chemistry: I have tutored undergraduate and graduate students in these areas. Coursework in these areas can vary widely so please contact me with the specific coursework and questions you'd like to work on together.

10/10 tutor for visual learners :)

I started tutoring with Yasmene after getting a 47% on my first physics exam, and thanks to her, I finished the class with an A! She was incredible at helping me visualize concepts in a way that finally made sense. As a visual learner, that made all the difference. She explained things clearly, patiently, and always found new ways to approach problems until I got it. If you're struggling with physics or just want to really understand the material, I can’t recommend Yasmene enough!

knowledgeable and patient and encouraging

She reviewed with my son, work that he struggled with. Listened and had him explain the process. Gave pointers on the test taking and working through difficult problems. She helped give us an understanding of where our son is at and the process for learning in these higher level classes.

Introduction and review of subject matter.

Yasmene did a terrific job of meeting with my daughter, speaking with her in order to understand her needs to learn her physics subject matter. Yasmene is extremely friendly and professional and took the time to listen to my daughter's concerns as to what she needed to get from her tutor sessions. Yasmeme's teaching style is excellent and explains the subject matter in a way that full understanding is quickly reached. My daughter was able to carry on with her work assignment to full completion after the lesson. We are very happy that we have found Yasmene and are looking to her next lesson.

Yasmene is Great!

My daughter has been struggling with college Quantum Physics and is really getting a lot out of her sessions with Yasmene! They work out problems together and my daughter is able to then transfer skills she learned to work on her own.

Amazing tutor!

Yasmene breaks concepts down to the foundational level so that I am better able to comprehend the subject. Yasmene is very knowledgeable on the topics and is super patent when it comes to my questions.

Knowledgeable and very helpful

Yasmeen was so helpful to my daughter with her summer honors physics packet. She was even kind enough to answer a question after the class We will use her again during the school year.

Wonderful physics tutor!

Yasmene is the sweetest! Very smart and does a great job breaking down some really difficult concepts into simple terms. She got me through a very fast paced 5 week physics 2 course and was patient, funny, and great at helping me tackle conceptual and mathematical problems to help me keep up. She will make you feel a lot more confident with your physics knowledge even after 1 lesson!

Very helpful on a variety of Electromagnetism subjects

Yasmiene is always punctual to lessons. She is very knowledgeable on a wide variety of physics problems. I tried her lessons because I was falling behind and she got me back up to speed within a couple sessions. Extremely helpful, highly recommended.
