I am excited to use my background in teaching writing and reading, along with my Summa cum laude Masters from East Carolina University, to share my passion for success! One delight is making the Reading and Writing section of the SAT less of a drudge and more of a challenge to the dedicated student. Another is to take a Reluctant or even Dyslexic Reader and help them read and write with creative exuberance. More? How exciting to help them design their college app essays for success, mining their humble opinions of themselves to find the magnificent difference they truly make in the world.

For me, it is a delight to watch them succeed. And they DO!

As for experience, I was Director of a college tutor program that served as a template for other community colleges. I taught developmental English for 13 years, much of it online, and high school English and Journalism for three. For more than 20 years, I've published as a freelance reporter, editor, and written or edited numerous books. I have taught most ELA courses for all ages. To do this, I help each student find their strengths and then utilize them in a variety of academic ways. In addition, I've tutored with Wyzant for two years.

Finally, I work diligently to design classes and projects that help each learner optimize their personal learning style and work to reach their educational goals. Interactive fun is a vibrant ingredient of my teaching. I hope you'll stop by and see for yourself!

Knowledgeable, fun, and memorable teacher!

Annette is helping me with essays, grammar, and how to research information. She makes everything memorable using metaphors and names for things like "superglue semi-colon"! Annette is also very personable and fun to learn with and talk to!

Joyful and whip-smart tutor

In the very first session, Annette covered two separate activities with our son, enabling to connect with her, free write, and complete a homework assignment. She encouraged plenty of back n forth communication in preparing for a first meeting and has resources at the ready to make the overall engagement more valuable.

An Invaluable Tutor for My Daughter: Annette's Outstanding Support

I cannot speak highly enough of Annette's incredible work as a tutor for my daughter. Over the course of a few sessions in English, Annette has proven to be an absolute gem in providing invaluable support and guidance. What makes her stand out is her genuine care and dedication towards her students, particularly my daughter, who has ADHD and autism. Annette's understanding and empathy for my daughter's unique learning needs have made all the difference in her progress. She possesses an exceptional ability to tailor her teaching methods to accommodate my daughter's challenges, making the learning experience enjoyable and accessible. Throughout the sessions, Annette has displayed genuine thoughtfulness and a keen interest in my daughter's well-being and academic growth. Her encouragement and positive reinforcement have fostered a sense of confidence in my daughter, and it's evident that she truly believes in her potential. But Annette's impact doesn't stop there; she goes above and beyond to ensure my daughter's future success. Her dedication to helping my daughter reach her goals, particularly regarding college aspirations, is both inspiring and heartwarming. Knowing that Annette is not only invested in the present but also in the long-term success of her students gives us immense comfort. Thanks to Annette's unwavering support and expertise, my daughter's progress in English has been remarkable. We've noticed significant improvements in her language skills, comprehension, and overall academic performance. Annette has been a pillar of strength, guiding my daughter through challenges and celebrating her successes with genuine enthusiasm. As a parent, it brings me immense joy to see my daughter excited about learning, and that is largely due to the positive influence of Annette. Her patience, passion, and dedication have created a safe and nurturing environment for my daughter to flourish.
