I'm driven by a passion for helping my students become more capable of achieving their goals. I've enabled students to increase their focus on tough tasks, organize their thoughts and work more clearly, grasp complex concepts, and develop skills for dealing with frustration and overwhelm. I offer years of experience as a tutor and coach in a wide range of subjects and contexts, from helping students improve their academic performance to guiding clients towards clarity on their struggles with general productivity. I love seeing the individuals I work with cultivate a greater sense of self-efficacy--the belief that they can set goals and execute the actions necessary to reach them. The warmth, care, and irrepressible humor I bring to my sessions make for a tutoring experience that is not just effective, but also enjoyable!

After graduating from Duke University, I spent a year on a Fulbright scholarship in Madrid, where my native fluency in Spanish helped me support my students' ESL progress. I later transitioned into the field of test prep, where my knowledge of pedagogy allowed my students to improve their scores by as much as 200 SAT points in just two months. Since then, I have expanded my focus beyond academic tutoring to include executive functioning and productivity coaching.

As a curriculum developer, workshop leader, and instructor for a Bay Area nonprofit, I've spent hundreds of hours providing group and one-on-one tutoring, mentoring, and coaching in "applied rationality"--a toolbox of practical skills ranging from forming clear goals and making solid plans to building healthy habits, communicating assertively, and practicing mindful self-regulation. I've organized international summer programs for mathematically talented students (including International Olympiad gold medalists) and led teacher training programs, all in service of providing others with powerful tools for thinking clearly and acting effectively. I look forward to working with you!

ADHD

ADHD

Whether you're struggling to overcome a lifelong procrastination habit, stay more focused on work instead of binging the internet, tackle an overwhelming workload without drowning in anxiety, or just learn how to actually study, I can help. I've worked as an educator and executive functioning coach for 7 years, and I love helping my students with ADHD overcome their challenges. Getting my degree from Duke University, teaching in both public and private schools, and working 1-on-1 with hundreds of students has given me unique insight into what works and what doesn't. I know how to connect with my students, build a strong working relationship based on trust and respect, and provide tailored, effective instruction and guidance. We'll work together to help you move towards your goals--academic, personal, or professional--by building healthy, useful habits. I'm looking forward to it!
Spanish

Spanish

Native fluency. 2 years of experience teaching in Spain, where I used my language skills in real-world settings every day. Minor in Spanish from Duke University. 8 years studying Spanish in the classroom, which has given me a rich understanding of what to do (and not do!) to create a positive experience for students.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I spent my last 2 years working at a non-profit in a coaching capacity, organizing workshops on self-development--skills in studying, organization, planning, goal-setting, and critical thinking. As the leader and organizer of 45-person workshops, I've worked with dozens of clients one-on-one. I bring a warm, lively energy to all of my sessions, and I'm known for establishing meaningful connections with clients while helping them develop their abilities. Let's see if I can help you meet your learning goals!

The best we’ve had for executive function issues

Luke is a top notch tutor who really knows how to connect with students, diagnose learning difficulties, and provide instructional remediation. I’ve been looking for this since my son was in 5th grade.

Great Tutor

As a parent, I was looking for someone to help my son with time management and executive functioning skills. Luke was great to suggest starting before his classes began, and he took the time to form a game plan with my son for the semester. Luke is personable and easy to talk to. He does a great job communicating with both parents and the student.

Excellent tutor

My son, a high school sophomore, worked with Luke to improve his organizational skills. My son and Luke enjoyed an instant rapport and Luke successfully helped him with scheduling, organization and overall focus. Luke is also very communicative with me, and summarizes the sessions. Very reliable and effective, as well as overall nice guy. Recommend highly.

Excellent strategies for student success, High school test prep

My son does not like school- but looks forward to meeting with Luke. He immediately engaged my 13 yr old son and was quickly able to make him feel ambitious to meet their agreed expectations. Luke communicates immediately after their meeting and gives thorough reports at the end of each session. I highly recommend Luke for any student struggling with confidence in academics.

More Than a Coach

Luke has worked with my son, a college freshman, since the late Spring. Luke lives up to his reviews--he is, an excellent executive function coach. He and my son have a great rapport and he always gives sound advice as to how to navigate his first year of college and manage his workload. But Luke has become so much more to my son, who says that Luke is 1/2 coach, 1/2 therapist. He looks forward to his weekly sessions with Luke and sharing his academic triumphs and challenges with him. How lucky is my son to have such an excellent sounding board?! And I'm equally grateful to Luke for his weekly updates to me so I can stay in the loop without having to be the helicopter mom I tend to be. I can't recommend Luke highly enough.

Knowledgeable and Professional

My son, who struggles with attention, recently started working with Luke, focusing on EF skills. Luke clearly has a lot of academic knowledge, experience, and expertise. My son genuinely looks forward to his sessions with Luke, and he has already begun incorporating some of the strategies he is learning. We feel fortunate to have found Luke, and look forward to continuing sessions!

Responsive and helpful

Luke is helping our son with time management and organizational skills as he starts his college classes. Luke is responsive and professional. He provided our son with tools to help him organize his class work schedule in the very first session! Our son is appreciative of Luke’s ability to help him manage his coursework , and looks forward to working with him going forward.

Luke is a Life Saver!!!

I’m a single mom and work long hours to put my middle school son through private school. When he was recently diagnosed with ADD, I reached out to Luke for help. My son needed to learn how to study for the way his brain works, and it was a constant battle between us getting him to do his homework. Once Luke stepped in, I was able to take a much needed step back - and it’s been AMAZING how much he has helped my son. Luke told me in the beginning that he needed to be able to connect with my child first - and not to be surprised if a lot of the lessons (especially in the beginning) just sounded like them joking around and not doing anything “productive”. But that is what sold me - because I know my child - and if he doesn’t get that “connection” with you - then he will NOT listen to you or take anything you say seriously. We’ve been with Luke for almost 9 months now, and it’s been the best decision ever. If your child struggles with ADD, I cannot recommend him enough!!!!!
