I have BS and PhD degrees in Chemistry and over 30 years combined experience as both a professional chemist in the lab and and a teacher / professor in the classroom. I have taught all levels but mostly high school and college. The broad experience helps me show the practical side of Chemistry as well as explain and iron out the difficulties.

I have taught all levels but mostly high school and college. The broad experience helps me show the practical side of Chemistry as well as explain and iron out the difficulties.

I focus now on online teaching / tutoring, and the available technology now makes that relatively easy. And it's MUCH more convenient (and safe) for both the student and me.

As part of the online focus, I have posted on a popular site a number of video clips explaining how to work specific chemistry "word problems". Those are probably the students' biggest hurdle, but it's all in the approach. I can teach you several techniques that will reduce your stress and boost your confidence, both in the process and in the final answer.

Chances are, if you've paid attention and tried to do the work all along, you've learned all the pieces you need to solve the problems. The difficulty is putting the pieces together -- and getting enough practice that you will be able to work confidently and quickly on your own.

In a career of over 30 years, about 20 were spent in Industry and about 10 in academia. My students have told me more than once, "You grade harder than the English Department does." And I teach Chemistry, not one of the "fuzzy" subjects where writing is emphasized. I was in the Honors English program as an undergraduate, but my diploma doesn't show it because I didn't stay in that program. I learned the rules of grammar and punctuation very thoroughly in High School English, and the key is the very same as my Greek teacher used when I studied New Testament Greek: diagramming sentences. There is no clearer way to take apart a sentence and really understand its structure. My wife, the author of six juvenile mysteries and two books of non-fiction, relies on my final edit of her manuscripts -- *after* the professional editor(s) at the publisher have done their work. I'm more meticulous than they are.

Outstanding!

My son is finishing his first semester of his freshman year of college. We got him a tutor so that he could feel more confident going into the final exam in chemistry. My son reported that Dr. B was excellent. Very helpful. I would highly recommend Dr. B and we would not hesitate to use him again.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor!

Dr. B was able to help my daughter last minute to prepare for a honors-level chemistry test explain and clarify and better detail in her own teacher quantum numbers and ionic radius!

Good tutor

He's very nice and kind. He prepared a lot with me before the lesson. Otherwise, he was patient and adjusted his schedule when I had to chang times. I'll hope to continue learning with him if I need the tutor of Chemistry. I recommend him.

Makes sure you understand!

I've worked with Dr. B for a few times now and it has been great. He is very nice, knowledgeable, and makes sure I understand the material we covered. He works problems and explains anything I need help on. I would recommend Dr. B to anyone struggling with chemistry!

Detailed , organized and knowledgeable

Dr, B was awesome. Very well prepared and the tutoring session was successful. We will definitely use Dr. B. For additional sessions. He was able to confirm and correct things for my daughter and will be able to keep her up to speed in Chem II during the school year.
