Hi, I'm Gabby, and I have been a tutor for 4+ years (with 3 years at Lone Star College-Kingwood in Texas). Primarily, I tutor in several math subjects, and I tutor occasionally in English/writing, biology, introductory chemistry, nutrition, and social sciences. I tutor not just to help students of all ages understand the content better but also to help students understand and trust in themselves better--to grow as a learner! I, myself, am a life-long learner, and so I appreciate how humbling this work can be.

I graduated in 2020 with my Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Biology at the University of Houston, which followed up a completion of my Honors Associate of Science at Lone Star College-Kingwood, where I was an Honors Fellow and had early exposure and experience conducting undergraduate research and presentation.

I have extensive training and experience tutoring students of all ages in developmental math (i.e. basic arithmetic, pre-algebra), algebra 1 and 2, college algebra, geometry, introductory statistics & probability, and trigonometry. My approach to tutoring is all about one's awareness and confidence in their prior knowledge, trust in one's mind and focus, and breaking down the problem(s) in a more digestible manner to be able to solve it. I like to establish that we are in this together, to recognize what's in front of us (in the problem), what the student understands, and working the puzzle together by understanding and applying the right puzzle pieces (i.e. concepts, properties, techniques, formulas, etc.).

Proofreading

Besides the fact that I enjoy reading and proofreading written pieces, I've gained a lot of my proofreading and editing skills when I was the Founding Editor-in-Chief of an online, student-led newspaper called The Howler at Lone Star College-Kingwood; as well as my time working as a news writer and then editor of my high school yearbook committee. While my main work in tutoring has centered around mathematics, I've continued to provide students support with my proofreading and editing skills to help them not only see where they can improve and enhance their speech on paper or presentation, but also continue to encourage their voice be heard.

Gabrielle is a great Tutor and I highly recommend her!

Gabrielle recently helped tutor my daughter in Geometry and she was just great. She was very patient, very kind, and extremely efficient. I really appreciated how she began the session with like a 3 minute meet and greet and kind of got a base line on where my daughter is at and what are her goals. After that she helped my daughter with some geometry homework she was struggling on. I noticed how Gabrielle had this kind of can do energy that she helped encourage my daughter with. Another thing I was grateful to Gabrielle for was actually in the beginning of the session we were having technical difficulties and she was so patient she even extended the time to compensate for the time we had missed due to those technical difficulties and made sure that my daughter received her full hour of instruction. The best part of the tutoring session I would have to say was seeing my daughter be comfortable and trying a problem on her own, and surprisingly after the session was over, my daughter wanted to continue to work on her problems by herself which really she doesn’t do that. Needless to say I was very impressed and grateful for the experience. We are looking so forward to our next session with Gabrielle she really is a great tutor! All the best, Mrs. West

Gabrielle

I've used a half-dozen tutors through Wyzant (at least double that many overall). Gabrielle is easily the best. Some tutors have the knowledge. Some tutors have the ability to teach. Few have both keen understanding plus the personal touch of a teacher. She does. She's patient, receptive to questions, and can distill the most complex matters into a layman's language.

Statistics tutoring

I am a college student who has just finished a month long online statistics summer course. I knew I struggled in math but Gabrielle made me improve in statistics so much! She is a patient, friendly, easy to talk with, encouraging, kind, and intelligent person who is a pleasure to work with! I really enjoyed our tutoring sessions. I felt comfortable, heard, and like I really learned the information when working with Gabrielle. I’d highly recommend Gabrielle!

Learned a lot!

Gabby is a fantastic tutor. I haven't done math in 20+ years and am taking a Statistics class in the fall. Gabby is working with me to get ready for the class. She's patient, knowledgeable and funny!

Very helpful, knowledgeable and responsive

Gabrielle is definitely an above and beyond statistics tutor. She will go out of her way to explain concepts beyond the instructions so that you can grasp Statistics terminology. I am taking an 8 week Statistics course and need all the help I can get, since Math is not my strongest subject but is needed for my curriculum. Every time we work together, Gabrielle will provide notes and links related to the subject matter at hand, whether it's on standard deviation, correlation and regression, inferential statistics - which all seem like Greek to me. But Gabrielle will provide examples that will help me grasp the material and provide video lessons where she goes over what I need to learn to prepare me for the next course to come (Research Methods), which includes but is not limited to demonstrating how to compute certain formulas in Excel. If anyone needs a tutor, like a good neighbor, Gabrielle is there! I highly recommend her. She's truly a gem. Also, she's an informative and faithful person, who also has great people and communication skills and a passion for helping others succeed.

She is kind helpful teacher!

She made me understand the topics I am studying a lot better and she made me feel more optimistic about math. She was so patient and explained topics in a way that I can actually understand and would actually happen in life. She is great I would 10/10 recommend!!
