As I begin this brief bio, I reflect upon my years of teaching and tutoring. It makes me smile, thinking about all that I have imparted to my students, both children, adolescents and adult learners. As I begin this brief bio, I reflect upon my years of teaching and tutoring. It makes me smile, thinking about all that I have imparted to my students, both children, adolescents and adult learners. In retrospect, I truthfully have learned so much from my students, probably, as much as I've taught them. My experience with tutoring has been in a private venue, as well as in an agency setting. I love the idea of interacting with a student, in a one-on-one situation. I initially attempt to understand that student's strengths in learning, and the academic challenges they may have. I am a creative tutor, incorporating any resource that is exciting, fun, and one that assists the student's understanding of a topic. I praise my student's feats as much as possible. We humans want to feel good about having accomplished something.
Educationally, I have a B.A. in Sociology and a M.S. in Human Services. I am originally from the East Coast, arriving in Kansas City, MO as a V.I.S.T.A. (Volunteers in Service to America). Once my teaching at an alternative high school ended, I began private tutoring adolescent and adult learners in reading and writing skills. In the last two years, I was a volunteer tutor with an agency and was a part-time adult literacy instructor. In conclusion, prospective student, I am thrilled to begin work with you, empowering you with skills that will allow you to feel confident in the area of concern. Let's begin this exciting journey!
