I currently work as a middle school ELA teacher. In the past, I have taught classes of both middle and high school French, Spanish, and Reading. I work relentlessly to increase academic achievement, while also helping to expand educational opportunities for our students. Both in and out of the classroom, I provide an environment conducive to language acquisition by utilizing the following:

1. Implementation of a variety of effective instructional strategies such as TPRS among others
2. Awareness of individual learning styles
3. Simulation of real-world applications of the language
4. Creating an atmosphere in which students feel comfortable to practice and learn from mistakes
5. Promoting an atmosphere where students respect cultures and learn from differences

What I bring to the position that may be unique among candidates is my foreign language background. I have spent a total of two years abroad for my undergraduate studies in Angers, France, as well as in Madrid, Spain. After my study abroad experience and having graduated from UCM, I relocated to Madrid where I taught ESL. Other experiences and places of teaching ESL include Boston, Massachusetts, and Liberty, Missouri. In addition to my study abroad experience, I was accepted into the French Advanced Placement Summer Institute at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, while undertaking my graduate studies. Finally, I spent the majority of the 2015 summer in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, with a family to immerse myself in both the language and culture. In my years studying both French and Spanish and living abroad in these countries, I have gained experience, awareness, and competence in my language skills. I feel this experience augments my instructional background and provides a unique perspective for my students.

Thank you for your consideration!

Immediate improvement

My son decided to switch languages from Middle School to High School and found himself far behind the other students and struggling on tests and quizzes. We hired Chelsea at the beginning of the 2nd semester and my son got his best score of the year on the first quiz he took since working with Chelsea. In addition to being an excellent Spanish tutor, Chelsea has a great attitude, is very reliable, and follows up on her work.

Thanks for the kind words, Diane!

She makes Spanish fun!

My 14 yer old needed help with Spanish. Thank goodness we found Chelsea. She tested my son and charted a plan to get him back on track. She creates games and study packets, including Quizlet, with pictures to make it easier to learn. She is so optimistic and supportive. I wish we had found her sooner! Playing catch-up is difficult, but my son finally doesn't feel so lost.

Magnifique French tutor!

Our 11 year old has had her first three sessions with Chelsea, and I've been amazed at how quickly she is progressing. We're starting from scratch, to get her ready for middle school French class, and Chelsea is an effective and fun teacher, connecting easily with our daughter and keeping her focused and interested. We're so glad we found Chelsea on WyzAnt! She's been extremely flexible about time and place for our sessions. We highly recommend her.
