I have a variety of tutoring experience and teaching experience. I'm certified in middle and high school English Language Arts and have taught high school English and a variety of test prep courses (SAT & ACT).

I have helped students of diverse backgrounds gain confidence in specific subjects and study skills. Most recently, I've worked with high school students in Algebra 2, Geometry, English, and general writing & study skills. I worked as an English teacher at Chinese university--teaching conversational English, Speech and Debate and Cultures of English Speaking Countries (a course combining history, geography, government and other social sciences). I've also tutored refugees--working on basic English skills. (I have a TESOL certificate.)

In college, I worked in a student learning center tutoring Spanish, political science, and history to first-generation college students and students with learning disabilities.

I have helped a number of high school students through the college admissions process. In a recent ACT course, I designed and taught students scores improved by an average of 3-5 points, In working with students on the SAT, I regularly saw test scores improving by several hundred points. I also worked with students on finding colleges to fit their interests and abilities. I helped a high-risk girl I mentored find a college program that fit her strengths--and she ended up receiving a full-ride scholarship. I've worked with individual middle and high school students doing subject tutoring including English, math, science, social sciences, study skills, time management, and test prep.

Professionally, I have experience with public speaking, editing and writing, and can help students to hone these skills.

My goal in tutoring is to get to know each student and understand what they are passionate about, how they learn, and how I can help them to be successful. I try to instill confidence in students so they learn how to approach problems and find good solutions.

I was chosen as one of the three representative speakers from my class to speak at my seminary graduation.
