Hi everyone! I'm Cody, a rising freshman at Stanford University studying Math and Computer Science. Throughout high school, I've always loved math. I studied several advanced math courses such as Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, Real Analysis, etc; participated in math competitions such as the AMC series, Math League, SMT, and BMT; and I attended the Stanford University Mathematics Camp, where I explored further into college theoretical math. During my journey studying advanced math material, I have realized the importance of essential problem-solving skills not only in solving math problems, but also problems in other sciences, including physics and chemistry.
When I teach, I aim to build the problem-solving capabilities of my students by encouraging them to consider multiple different approaches in solving tough problems as well as emphasizing the importance of struggling with problems before reaching for the answer key. As a perfect SAT/ACT math scorer (800/36), I'm determined to not only teach students essential math concepts, but also to demonstrate to students how to tackle problems they've never seen before. As such, I show students the many methods there may be in solving math problems, making students confident and accurate when taking high school exams. For math test preparation, I also teach time-saving calculator tricks to save 5+ minutes per section on the SAT as well as the commonly recurring problems that appear on every exam.
Since my freshman year of high school, I have taught high school math at my local summer school for two years and taught a class of 30 middle school students online. I have also initiated a weekly middle school math club where I taught students essential concepts in competition math and how to problem-solve effectively. Furthermore, I've organized two math competitions at my local high school, where dozens of students participated in engaging math contests.
I'm excited to share my passion for math to my students on this platform!
