Qualifications for “trigonometry”

Trigonometry can be very difficult to comprehend, so I break down and explain the concepts in a couple of different ways to help students learn and remember them. Minimizing math anxiety helps with the stress of completing homework, quizzes, and tests. My goal is to help students see topics, like trigonometric identities, seem like puzzles to solve – and have fun with it!

About Dawn

Bio

It always bothered me when students got "turned off" to math at an early age due to frustration when the material was explained too quickly or not presented in a variety of ways to help reach every student. Since math is a basic skill that is needed to manage life, I try to ease anxiety and give confidence to students, so they believe that they CAN do math!

It always bothered me when students got "turned off" to math at an early age due to frustration when the material was explained too quickly or not presented in a variety of ways to help reach every student. Since math is a basic skill that is needed to manage life, I try to ease anxiety and give confidence to students, so they believe that they CAN do math!

The student and I work together to solve problems, and I review pertinent skills as we go along, especially focusing on weak skills that need clarification and practice. As appropriate, I share teaching resources that I have created to give guidance through the problem-solving steps. We progress through the session with the student performing the necessary steps with more ease and assuredness and less intervention from me.

My goal is that the student will be able to think logically while solving a problem. Life is full of problems to solve, and being able to think logically and remember a series of steps is essential when in school, on the job, cooking, doing a home project, planning a party, etc.; I try to make students understand this so they stop questioning "why" they need to learn the material in the first place!

I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Math & Computer Science, with a minor in Physics. I have been tutoring math from Prealgebra through Calculus 1 professionally since 2008, but I have been helping people with math since I was in elementary school.

I enjoy helping students realize that they do not need to fear math!
