I have been working as a tutor since 2002. At that time I was a co-teacher with my mom for a summer school program. She teaches reading and I teach math to elementary school students. As my mother was a special education, I have experience with learning disorders. I am currently working with students doing Everyday Math. All of my current elementary students see me for math. My high school students see me for many subjects. I mostly work with them in math and sciences, though they also often end up asking for help in other subjects. I am good with teaching study skills, as well as have plenty of experience with essay writing.

My degree is from University of Michigan in Theater and Spanish. That is where I honed my writing and learned how to study. Since then, I returned to school and did post-baccalaureate work in sciences: Biology, Chemistry, and Microbiology. I also studied Physics and Biochemistry, though I don't tutor in those. My most common classes I tutor for are Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Trigonometry, Biology, and Chemistry. Other things I have done recently include AP Government, AP US History, AP Biology, World History, Pre-Calculus, English Language and Literature, Spanish, and Composition.

Elementary Math

I have been working with my mother doing summer school in math for thirteen years. I have lots of materials and resources in nearly all topics of elementary math. I have a process for helping students learn their multiplication tables that has had great results. I also have math games on my iPad that my students really enjoy and are effective.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have been tutoring in algebra the longest. I have at least one or two students per year who need help in this subject. My standard method is to work on homework together, go over tests and quizzes, and to be sure to do chapter reviews before all tests.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have been tutoring Algebra 2 for the past six years. My standard method for tutoring math is to work on homework together, go over tests and quizzes, and to be sure to do chapter reviews before all tests. I've found most often students just need things explained in a different way, as everyone learns differently.
Biology,

Biology

In high school, I took AP Biology, and during my post-baccaluareate work I studied Biology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry. When tutoring science classes, I go over homework and will sometimes assign extra problems from the book. I have found that most often, students only need a different explanation that makes more sense to them.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

During my post-baccalaureate work, I studied Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry. When tutoring science classes I go over homework and will sometimes assign extra problems from the book. I have found that most often, students only need a different explanation that makes more sense to them.
