In 2012, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design & Marketing with honors from Northern Michigan University. After graduation, I decided to pursue a career in medicine. I completed my pre-medical coursework. In 2018, I graduated with a Master of Arts in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Biomedical Sciences. In 2018, I started a Doctoral Program in Science Education. During graduate school, I earned two Teaching Effectiveness Awards (2018 and 2023). I began tutoring in 2011 and have eight years of teaching experience at university, in-person and online, with up to 170 students in a single class. I am also a Pre-Health Sciences Advisor for Pre-Med, Pre-Nurse, and other health-related occupations.

I apply a cognitive-constructivist approach to learning with my students, which requires each student to take on an active role in the learning process. How students learn largely depends on how their minds make sense of the concepts, and that only works if the student is motivated to learn with a growth mindset. During each session, I challenge students to think about their learning and why.

I utilize a "Talk-Aloud" learning methodology, where students verbalize their thought processes as they read through content or solve problems. Talk-Aloud helps visualize student thinking, like a mind-reading superpower that allows an instructor to "see" what errors students make as they solve problems. Learning is a two-way process requiring students to review the material before, engage in the session, and review the material after. Tutors are great for helping students identify problems, but they cannot possibly make students remember everything covered in sessions. It is up to the student to commit to the learning process before, during, and after every session. My goal as a tutor is to help students develop critical thinking and learning strategies to become better independent learners, which will help them succeed in their programs and life.

I am currently working on my doctoral thesis, which centers on problem-solving on standardized science exams, which is helpful for AP exams. as those are also standardized. My work has positively influenced my ability to help students think and approach studying for standardized exams. In addition to my teaching experiences, I have extensive undergraduate and graduate coursework in Biological and Biomedical Sciences and chemistry—topics on the AP exams are covered at the collegiate level. Previous Coursework: Human & Anatomy Physiology I and II, Advanced Cell Biology, General Biology, General Pathology, Pathophysiology, Advanced Cell Biology, Neurobiology, Pharmacology, Eukaryotic & Prokaryotic Cell Biology, Animal Physiology, Endocrinology, and Bioethics. College Counseling

College Counseling

I have been a pre-professional advisor for university undergraduate students for approximately 10 years. I work with students to help them learn and understand the requirements of their chosen career path as they progress through their university programs. I work with students to develop strong study habits and strategies that prepare them for the rigor of college coursework while enhancing the skills necessary to excel once they are admitted to their professional programs. I discuss pre-requisite course requirements and volunteer and/or work requirements for admission into their chosen program. I am familiar with multiple standardized examination preparation for various admissions exams, including the MCAT, LSAT, DAT, TEAS, PCAT, and GRE. I also work with students to prepare their applications for a given program, including preparing personal statements, secondary essays, and overall application flow. Although I specialize in pre-medical and pre-nursing professional tracks, I advise other health occupations, including pre-dental, pre-pharmacy, pre-veterinarian, and other pre-health occupations. More recently, I started advising pre-law students in professional programs. In addition, I am also an LSAT tutor and instructor.
LSAT

LSAT

I have over 13 years of teaching experience as a Course Instructor, Graduate Teaching Assistant, and Tutor. Although I mainly tutor in the Biological & Biomedical Sciences portion of the MCAT exam, I started tutoring for the LSAT six months ago, including teaching an 10 week LSAT prep course. In addition, I am currently working on my doctoral thesis, which centers on problem-solving on standardized exams. This has positively influenced my ability to help students think and approach studying for standardized exams. In addition to my teaching experiences, I have extensive undergraduate and graduate coursework, especially in Biomedical Sciences related to the MCAT exam and hopefully the legal world with exams such as the LSAT and the BAR. My goal is to prepare students for the LSAT and help them develop the skills necessary to succeed in law school.
