Dear future student,

I have tutored and taught students since 1996 at levels from Pre-K to College. I have a Bachelor's degree in Math and an MD. In 2018, before I moved to Maine, I worked in the Boston area with Summit Educational Group, which holds very high standards for its tutors. This was an honor.

I have tutored and taught students since 1996 at levels from Pre-K to College. I have a Bachelor's degree in Math and an MD. In 2018, before I moved to Maine, I worked in the Boston area with Summit Educational Group, which holds very high standards for its tutors. This was an honor.

I enjoy tutoring because I get to provide real help to people as they pursue their goals. I also appreciate the challenges of listening well, assigning appropriate work, and giving reasonable and memorable explanations. I teach "to the test" but in a way that the student builds her fundamental knowledge.

Over the last 23 years, I have helped hundreds of students grasp algebra concepts and attain the confidence and mastery they needed to do well in their tests and courses. I have developed a reputation for listening well and explaining concepts in a way students can understand. I have worked with students from 7th grade to adult learners on this material, and am quite comfortable helping students build mastery.

I have training in Psychiatry as part of the normal coursework for an MD. I have also tutored in intro to psychology for 3 years and taught nursing classes including Human Growth and Development and Human Behavior. I am well-versed in patient presentations for major mental illnesses as well as nursing interventions to aid in promoting mental health.

I completed the extensive training provided by Summit Educational Group and have helped students raise their scores by 100 points or more. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Michigan State University and 20+ years experience tutoring math, much of it at the SAT level. I am patient, supportive, and I communicate directly. I work to foster a skill-building or “growth” mindset, and to identify and connect with a student’s internal source of motivation.

Laura worked with my 10 year old daughter in math. We were visiting Maine for the summer and didn't want our daughter to lose her math momentum going into 5th grade. Laura helped get her back up to speed and showed her some new methods. Laura was patient, kind, gentle and soft spoken. My daughter responded wonderfully to her temperament and teaching methods.

Laura brought her TEAS book for the exam I need and that impressed me. We dug right in and found what I was weak in. I have a lot of homework and I will see her next week. She adjusted her method of teaching to accommodate my old fashioned method. She is a good teacher.
