About Winston

Bio

I have 9 years of substitute teaching experience combined in the Prince Georges and Montgomery County Public School system in Math, Sciences, Music, Physical Education, Computer Technology...

I have been blessed with an education second to none from Trinidad and Tobago and the United States, and it would be more than fulfilling to share what I know with others. I hold an MD degree from Howard University College of Medicine and a BS degree in Zoology from the Howard University College of Arts and Sciences. I have received many awards from these institutions inclusive of the Phi Beta Kappa Award for the highest freshman average (1988-89), the Marion Merrell Dow Minority Scholar Award for Neurology in 1995, and the Roland and Waldean S. Nickens Scientific Research Award for being the 1st place presentation winner at the 16th Annual Howard University Medical Center Scientific Forum in 2001 at the end of my Orthopaedic Surgery residency training. I have 37 years of music knowledge which started off as piano lessons and diversified into music production, sound engineering and recording.

I have 9 years of substitute teaching experience combined in the Prince Georges and Montgomery County Public School system in Math, Sciences, Music, Physical Education, Computer Technology and Languages. I am patient and understanding of students educational needs on an individual basis. I am able to break down complex concepts such that students are able to grasp these ideas and reconstruct them. Students today are born into technology, and I embrace and use this to its maximum potential, and combined with the knowledge of old, perfect harmony is created in the learning process.

I started taking piano lessons from the age of 7 through various piano teachers who have all since passed away. Through their tuition, I was tested in piano theory and practical through the Trinity College of Music Theory (Grade 5) and Practical (Grade 4) while in Trinidad in the West Indies. Since I immigrated to the US in 1988, I have continued playing piano and I have been a mentor to numerous students who aspire to play the way I have been taught both classically and nonclassically. I have given lessons privately to individuals at their homes and as a substitute teacher in Montgomery County, MD, I have taught at many elementary, middle and high schools, "Introduction to piano" as well as "Music" since 2006 to present. Students have mentioned that they appreciate the knowledge that they have received from me as far as improving their piano skills or just knowledge of music in general.

Well prepared and patient - meets the kids where they are and brings them to the next level

Winston always arrives prepared, listens to the children play their selections and asks questions of them to see what they know, adding to their knowledge in an insightful and genuine way. The children (boys 9 and 6 each have played since age 4) are impressed and rank him as the best music instructor they have worked with. This is worth every penny.
