About Jay

Bio

My name is Jay, a rising junior biomedical engineering major at Drexel University, with a provisional admission to Drexel's College of Medicine (DUCOM) via the BS+MD program. I am striving to become a physician, and the BS+MD program allows me to enter DUCOM after my undergraduate experience without the hassle of medical school applications. I have a 3.97 GPA at Drexel, and have made the Dean's list for the School of Biomedical Engineering in every quarter I have been at Drexel.

I have been tutoring both math and physics at the college level during my first two years of college. I have been working in Drexel's Math Resource Center (MRC) as an employed tutor since the beginning of my sophomore year, and I have taught subjects ranging from financial math to techniques of integration to solving second-order nonhomogeneous differential equations. As a tutor in the MRC, I work with a variety of students as it functions as a walk-in tutoring service, so I have had experience working with many different students, all with various preferred styles of learning. I have been teaching physics for some time now as well. Since I took college-level physics in my high school, I was more prepared that most for the level of difficulty that would be encountered in our physics classes. I was able to work with my friends and teach them the necessary concepts and topics that would be covered on quizzes and exams. I covered content in both a classical mechanics course and an electricity & magnetism course while tutoring them. Math and physics have always been two of my most favorite subjects, and I always enjoy both learning more about these subjects, as well as helping others gain an advanced understanding.

I have always been interested in tutoring others because I appreciate being able to use my proficiency in subjects to help others who might be struggling in that subject. Being able to put some of my skills to use and help others in whatever way I can is a great opportunity that Wyzant has afforded me.

ACT Math

ACT Math

I earned a math subsection score of 790 on my first attempt at the SAT as a junior in high school, and achieved many perfect scores on the math subsection during practice tests and PSATs. I have done many practice math questions for the ACT, so I am familiar with their question structure and how to best answer them.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I completed both algebra 1 and 2 while in middle school while on the advanced math track. I'm currently completing my bachelors degree at Drexel University in Biomedical Engineering, and I have taken many different math classes in college to build my mathematical foundation as an engineer.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I completed both algebra 1 and 2 while in middle school while on the advanced math track. I'm currently completing my bachelors degree at Drexel University in Biomedical Engineering, and I have taken many different math classes in college to build my mathematical foundation as an engineer.
Calculus

Calculus

As a junior in high school, I completed AP Calculus BC, earning a 5 on the AP exam for both the BC exam and the AB subscore. As a senior, I took multivariable calculus as one of the few students in my graduating class that took that course in high school. I used my high school credits to gain credit for all three of MATH 121, 122, and 123 (Calculus I, II, and III) in Drexel, and I again took multi-variate calculus (MATH 200) here at Drexel. I have experience teaching many different levels of calculus as a math tutor, and consider it one of my best subjects.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I completed Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry in high school, and earned credit for both CHEM 101 and CHEM 102 (General Chemistry I & II) at Drexel through the AP credit. I also have completed both Organic Chemistry I & II (CHEM 241 & 242) as part of my pre-med requirements.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

As a freshman, I took MATH 210 (Differential Equations) at Drexel, and passed the class with an A+ grade. We learned about various methods for solving first order differential equations, second order differential equations (homogeneous and non-homogeneous), and systems of differential equations. I became very comfortable with the content, and consider myself a strong tutor for ordinary differential equations.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I've tutored students of varying levels of ability in a wide range of math classes. I have a strong foundation in basic mathematics, which makes me a great option to teach elementary math to potential students. Being able to build this foundation for a student is vital to their future success in math.
Physics

Physics

I completed AP Physics 1, AP Physics C: Mechanics, and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism in high school, and earned credit for both PHYS 152 and 154 at Drexel via those classes. I completed PHYS 101 (mechanics) and PHYS 102 (E&M) at Drexel, earning over a 100 as my final grade in both classes. I’ve also taken various mechanical engineering courses such as Statics (MEM 202) and Dynamics (MEM 238) as part of my major requirements.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I finished my pre-algebra courses while in elementary school and in sixth grade, and I was able to complete both Algebra 1 and 2 in middle school. I have the strong foundation in math that is necessary to teach pre-algebra to students.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I finished precalculus as a high school sophomore on the advanced math track, and since then have completed many calculus courses at both the high school and college level. I am well equipped to teach students the fundamentals needed as they venture into future calculus courses.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I earned a math subsection score of 790 on my first attempt at the SAT as a junior in high school, and achieved many perfect scores on the math subsection during practice tests and PSATs.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I learned trigonometry while taking Geometry in middle school, and I’ve mastered the ability to apply trigonometric principles for specific engineering and physics classes to mathematically model real-life situations.
